Subject: I agree she should stop whining but many Buchanans have done as bad, or worse, as Natalie in the past, so there moral indignation about Natalie should be short-lived to avoid their being big fat hypocrites.

Subject: Whatever Buchanans did in the past, they have been done to others. What Natalie did, she did TO the Buchanans. That is the difference for me. ladfan

Subject: All soap characters are hypocrites, but those that are called out for it are those taking the opposite view of a favorite character. It doesn't matter what other Buchanans have done in the past - in the here and now, Natalie has made her choice and no one in her family has treated her so badly to deserve this. She's an adult acting like a spoiled child. She wants everything her way and then can't understand why her family doesn't agree with her choices. I think her parents still love her, which is why her choices have disappointed and angered them. But I have yet to see any real remorse from her towards her parents, it only comes after all the deals are done and Natalie is alone with her consequences. eom

Subject: Very nicely put, Emily. Natalie is acting like a child in that she thinks she should be forgiven because her blackmail was done because she loves Jared. Every action has consequences - some good, some bad. Those consequences need to be weighed before the action and then accepted. Natalie thinks she weighs the consequences, but she really doesn't. And then she's surprised when people don't automatically forgive her. Every soap needs characters like this. Tina was one, back in the day. Natalie is one now. They create story through their personality defect. I may not like what Natalie does all the time, but I respect her role as a soap-troublemaker. Wanda
