I just saw this on CNN.
(CNN) -- Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83.
He died Friday, according to spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic.

This news just took my breath away. He was my pin-up poster guy from college days. I adored Paul Newman. He was a gorgeous man on the outside, but more importantly, on the inside.
He believed that if you were one of the lucky ones, then you should give to those who were not so lucky in life. He put words into action, and I believe the death of his son was a pivotal turning point not only in his personal life but in his acting.
A consummate gentleman, a philanthropist, a father, a husband, and a wonderful actor. The world is a better place because he 'lived'. We have lost a treasure. May his legacy live on.
Thoughts go out to his wife and family. What an unimaginable loss for them. Rest in peace.

Message: My son just IM-ed me that he didn't have the heart to tell Robin that we'd "lost Doc". CARS was the first movie Robin ever saw. He has watched it so many times. I still remember, he got it for Christmas the year it came out, he came in the door and the first words he said was "Grandpa, I got the Cars movie", Grandpa said "so did I".

I was floored although I shouldn't be since the tabloids were all over his illness.
He has always been in my TOP FIVE! I adore him as an actor, a man and a humanitarian.
Recently there was a list of the most generous celebrities. Paul was halfway down the top 10 list. HUH??? It listed the ten million dollars he gives ANNUALLY to his alma mater BUT did NOT list the 100% profits he gives from Newman's Own to his Hole In The Wall Gang.
Considering that charity has been around for a few decades - shame on them!!
I'm busy and about to leave on vacation but I have quite a few wonderful stories about this LEGEND that I will share some time in the future.
Condolences to Joanne, his wife of 50 years, and his children!

That one brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful human being, terrific actor and gorgeous man. I always remember one quote of his. Someone asked him if he ever considered having an affair with some of his beautiful leading ladies and he said, *Why would I go out for a hamburger when I have steak at home*. ~~sigh~~ Now that's a man. He will be sorely missed.

Message: :-( Now this one hurts. I so hated seeing the pictures of Paul on the magazine covers sick. I feel so badly for Joanne, but I'm sure she wouldn't want him to be suffering any more. I not only had a huge crush on him most of my life, but I admired him as an actor and a person. RIP Paul!
