Topic: I'm back, finally.

Additional Comments:

I've been MIA for about two weeks now because everything got so hectic.  For starters, at work, the couple who own our company went on vacation for 2 weeks leaving the business in the hands of their inept daughter.  Translation: I've been running part of the show for 2 weeks and I'm exhausted.  If I wanted to run a company, I'd start my own.  I usually get a chance to go on the board once during the day at work, but there just hasn't been time.  In addition, my daughter made her First Communion yesterday so the ramp up to the big day and party was taking all of my free time.  My girl looked so beautiful and did great!  She even answered a question from the priest.  The party went well I think.  Everyone seemed to have a great time, the food was outstanding (we had it at a restaurant, thank goodness because it was chilly and overcast all day yesterday ) and there was plenty of room for the kids to run around.  Of course, my brother got drunk and obnoxious which really made me and my husband angry, but I expect nothing less from him.  My Mother in Law also decided to skip the church (which is the most important part) because it was too early for her and "she just doesn't go in for this sort of thing."  What sort of thing, she wasn't joining a cult.  I'm just glad my daughter had a nice day.  Besides the party, my two and a half year old decided he was ready to try the potty, so every 30 minutes or so, we're running into the bathroom.  His timing has been right a few times now, but I just give him so much credit for trying as much as he is.  He's been so good about it all.  I can't believe my baby is growing up.

I've tried to read up through the posts I've missed so here's a few answers:

First, to anyone who needed prayers and good thoughts, you've got them.  I hope the situations resolve soon.

Congratulations Charlotte on your scooter!  I hope it opens up a world of going out and enjoying yourself again.

Rusty, I can't believe Connor is 1 already.  He's adorable and I'm so happy his medical issues worked out.

DWTS: I think it was the right time for Marlee to go.  I loved her and can't believe she was able to do as well as she did, but the faster dances were definitely giving her trouble.  She really was inspirational though.

To everyone else, it's good to be back.  I hope life doesn't get in the way of visiting more often!

Annie....good to see you back.

You are one smart lady having the post First Communion celebration at a restaurant...no cooking and cleaning for you! Too bad your MIL couldn't set aside her thoughts about church and go to church just for her granddaughter's special day. But, on the other hand, it will be something to talk and laugh about in later years.

Sounds like your little guy is well on the way to being potty trained....good deal.

  • Thanks Tori. I would never have done this party at my house anyway. April here in NJ is so unpredictable. All last week it was sunny and in the high 70's, low 80's. Saturday morning though it rained and only went up into the mid 60's. Instead of people in the backyard, I would have had a ton of people and small children crammed into my house. No thank you! My daughter did great though and thanks for your kind words.

You were missed!  Glad it was just because you were busy.  Wonderful news about your DD's first communion.  Very proud!  So, if your MIL didn't want to be there, I think it was wise for her to stay away, really.  Of course, your daughter might not understand.  After all, it was HER day, not your MIL's.  I just don't understand relatives and their selfish attitudes.  My hand therapist is getting married in July and her parents (who are divorced) are acting so petty.  Mother won't watch daughter walk down the aisle because Dad will be escorting her.  Can you imagine?  No pictures where they are both in them.  Doesn't matter if they aren't standing together.  Nope, separate pictures, twice the expense.  Can't have people thinking 20 years down the road that those two were still married.  Sheesh.  I just don't get it.

Anyway, congrats to DS, too, for trying his best.  It's a poopy thing!  LOL  I hope he's successful and is pleased.

  • Thanks! I've decided that families stink. They make most things in life difficult and both sides, mine and my husbands, made things difficult on Saturday for me. I don't know why people can't just give you a day to enjoy. Thanks for the welcome back!

Congratulations on your daughter's first communion!  I'll bet that story is still told 50 years from now.  I've always preferred friends over family, except for my own husband and kids.  Friends make up for so much.

    It's nice to see you.

  • Thanks Bink! Friends do make up for so much and my friends definitely made up for things on Saturday. When I needed someone to watch my son while I ran around, my best friend did. When I needed help passing out the cakes, my two good friends helped me. No one in my family stepped up. What are you going to do right?? Thanks for the well wishes!

I'll bet you were really glad when they got BACK from vacation!     Your daughter's first communion sounds like a nice time (well except for drunk brother and mil not going to the church - like you said that's kindof the important part of the day duh.)     The important thing is that you made it special for her.    Good to have you back!

  • Thank Gail! I was so happy to see the owners I was ready to kiss their feet. I'm wiped out. My daughter's day was so special for her and she loved her party. At 7, you're not privy to the behind the scenes drama. Sometimes I wish I was 7!

Hi, Annie! Put your feet up and stay awhile... Glad the daughter's big day went well. Do they still do the formal pictures of the girls in their dresses like they did way back in the 60's? Good idea having the party where you wouldn't have to do the work. Sounds like it's been hectic!

  • Hi Doopy! I took my daughter last week to have formal pictures taken and I'm so glad I did. We weren't allowed to take pictures at the church and there just wasn't a lot of opportunity to pose her. My girl looked so beautiful in her pictures too. Like an angel. I was stunned when I saw some girls walk into the church on Saturday with their hair professionally done up and makeup on. Are you kidding me? They're 7 and 8 year old girls?
