They just interviewed the man on the news.

The flight attendant was off duty and had agreed to fly sitting on the jump seat from San Diego to New York.  She had given up her seat for this passenger.

Sometime into the flight she changed her mind.  She wanted her seat back and that's when the pilot told the passenger to sit in the bathroom.  He told the man that he was in total control of the flight and plane and the the man should be grateful that he was even onboard the flight.

The FAA is investigating the incident.

Passengers are told to keep their seatbelts fastened even if the light is not on for safety just in case the flight hits turbulance or an unexpected air pocket.

The passenger said that he did not feel safe in the bathroom and that he suffered humiliation.  (wouldn't you?)

She changed her mind so why did HE have to sit in the bathroom? You'd think the pilot would be on the side of the passenger and insist she abide by her decision OR sit in the bathroom herself. I'd be humiliated if ordered by a pilot to the john. Who says NO to anyone dealing with airport security these days?

  • I think that's why they are organizing a ''Passenger's Rights'' group. I totally agree that the pilot should be in control of the flight. Someone has to be in charge. But this pilot showed extremely bad judgement and I do hope he loses his job over it. I also think the man has the right to his lawsuit. He's asking for 2 million. That might seem high. To me the ones that are too high are the 36 million dollar suits. Plus they are stupid to ask for that amount of money. If they win, it's appealed and tied up in the court system for years. I have a feeling this man will settle out of court for a fair amount. Jet Blue ultimately will pay the price for their own pilot's stupidity. I don't know what I would have done had I been that man. Anymore, they have police waiting at the gate if you do the slightest thing that they don't like. I guess I would have gone immediately to the Jet Blue desk and asked to speak with the highest representative that they had at the NY airport. I don't think I would have asked the pilot to call ahead and have someone waiting there. Who knows what story the pilot would have concocted to save his own butt. Nope, in this case the man was stuck .... at least until they landed. eom mags
  • Letterman covered this story in his monologue and top ten list. One of the funniest he said that for Jet Blue sitting in the bathroom was an upgrade. You're right about the amount. Ask for 2 million and he'll get a reasonable amount of money for his trouble and possibly benefits (if Jet Blue is smart) - not that he'd ever want to fly with them again. They have their problems, for sure, but my husband loved the one flight he took with them - don't think I'll ever darken their seats. eom/WE
