Additional Comments:

It's Saturday night! Time for a little chat! What's everyone up to?

I took my mom to get her hair done yesterday. She looks really cute! Her stylist always does my hair at the same time. She usually does a great job.  Mainly because she does the same thing every time LOL  I saw her new do, and told her to give me that.

Well I didn't get her do! It doesn't look anything like her do!  I kid you not, this is what I look like:

Hey Rusty, I see you came back to play with the harem:o)

I just had an idea that I proposed down below (to Blinkie, somewhere down there): What do you think about having a regular weekly Soap topic on the board? Just one topic for the week, but in that topic we could talk about any soap we are watching.

    What do you think?

BTW, I am in no way nominating myself to be the one posting it! I am in no way dependable for that sort of thing LOL

Okay, so chances are most of us found this board because we watch soap operas.

Fess up...how many have you watched through the years? Which is the first one you remember watching?

I've watched so many soaps I can't begin to recall all of them. There were the ones my mother and aunts watched...Secret Storm, Search For Tomorrow,  Young Doctor Malone.

Then there were the ones I chose to watch with my friends...the first one of my choice was Another World...watched it during the summers when I was in high school. Also watched General Hospital and Days during that time and a lot more years.

I loved Dark Shadows...the Sci-Fi channel carried it for a while years ago...great fun.

Now, I'm down to two daytime soaps...AMC and OLTL...have watched them from the beginning.

So, how about it...what soaps do you watch?

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I started watching Another World when it was still only a half hour. I'd occasionally see the end of The Doctors, so I started watching that. Then I'd see the end of Days of Our Lives. Eventually, I narrowed it down to just Days. I watched OLTL for a little while when my mom started watching, and I watched GH for a little while back in the Luke and Laura days, as well. Now I only watch Days...Blinkie
  • Great topic Tori! The earliest soaps I recall was Search for Tomorrow, Love of Life and AMC. Oh, and I remember Dark Shadows with Barnabas! Geez, I was a wee one then. I remember when Y&R first came on. But the soap I was really into was GH, especially w/Luke & Laura. That was when I was in high school and GH was HUGE! Now I really only watch the soaps when I'm watching my mother during the week. It's so easy for me to catch up. With the exception of DOOL, I rarely sit through the whole thing. My mom watches Y & R, then watches the rest of AMC, then OLTL and GH. Then DOOL is on DVR. (pickles)
  • Morning, anyone still up? The first soap I ever watched was AMC. I came in almost at the beginning. I don't remember Bobby Martin's trip to the attic though. One show led to another and at one time I watched all of the ABC soaps. Never watched any other ones. Ryan's hope lost me at some point, then years later GH just got too boring to watch. I still watch AMC and OLTL. I gripe about them and threaten to quit, but I'm still there most days. - abra
  • I watched more soaps when they were only 30 minute shows. :)Tori
  • hi, abra...I think I watch AMC and OLTL out of habit more than for the value of the show. When I think I've watched OLTL for 40 years I just shake my head. :)Tori
  • My Mom got me hooked. I use watch, The Doctors, Another World, Days of Our Lives, and then Passions. I also watched the last two or three years of Santa Barbara. As you know, The Doctors, Another World, and Santa Barbara were cancelled long ago. I hated Passions and after the first year, I quit watching it. I still watched Days, and I wanted another soap to fill the Passions time slot. I tried many other soaps. I picked OLTL because it was in the same time slot as Passions and because my best friend watched it. Later I could not stand Days, when they had Marlena kill everyone. I quit watching Days. I replaced Days with AMC. I now watch and record AMC, OLTL and Y&R. I watch Days if I am home and able to see it. My Mom records and watchs AMC and OLTL too. She does this because of me. She watches Days each day if she is at home and does fall asleep thru it. LOL. Those are all the old and current soaps I watch. Good night, for real. :-) eom/Grace
  • Hi abra! Nice to see you! For me, it just depends on the storyline. When OLTL had the Marty gang rape story, I was riveted! When AMC had the Miranda story, I was hooked. When any popular character dies, I watch. So it just depends (pickles)
  • I have only watched ABC soaps. Started with AMC & Ryan's Hope, then when I was pregnant I started watching GH & OLTL too. The only one I still watch is AMC. /JoEllen
  • Hi JE! Didn't realize you were here! Seems like people are going to sleep now! lol (pickles)

    Days Topic!

So, what was the deal with Kate finding every opportunity to talk to Daniel about not wanting Chelsea to find out they'd been together? Just shut up about it and don't send a text! Geeeeesh. If the writers wanted to break Daniel and Chelsea up, couldn't they find a better way to do it????

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Was that not the funniest thing? Why do people on soaps always discuss super confidential stuff in hospital lobbies and hallways anyway? LOL There was a full episode of Kate worrying that Chels would find out and Dan assuring her she would never ever. Then Kate sends that stupid msg? That seems like really bad writing to me! I don't like Chelsea with Dr. Dan anyhow cuz the actress looks about 16 and he looks to be in his 40s. And Chelsea is so wholesome looking too. It just seems kinda pervy. And Poor Chels! All her bfs sleep with her mother or grandmother! Ewwwwww (pickles)
  • I agree. That was a lame way to break up Daniel and Chelsea. Chelsea would not have known a thing if Kate had kept her trap shut! eom/Grace
  • I haven't watched Days in years. One time when we were in LA we toured the NBC studios...part of the tour was through the Days sets....fun time. :)Tori
  • That sounds like fun Tori! Another DOOL comment: I hate the way John kisses! His mouth is always WIDE open! It's very distracting. Diedre Hall must like though since she's been kissing him all these years LOL (pickles)
  • And...I think the actress they have playing Max's sister would have been a better Stephanie recast. She reminds me of the other girl who played Stef...Blinkie
  • Though Stef is a cute girl, how in the world could she be Steve and Kayla's daughter when they are both blond? LOL You are right, Max's sis probably would have been better. BTW, I don't like that sister character at all. It's grating (pickles)
  • I don't like her either. I hope the entire Trent storyline goes away soon. How in the world could Victor's attorneys not find out Nichole was already married. Yet another case of bad writing...Blinkie

How many boards do you post on?

At Mediadomain, I lurk/post on a lot of the personal topics ones. Sometimes I'll check out the soaps side. I lurk more than I post though.  It is just so time consuming! If I don't have the time, I first come to OLTL, then go to DOOL.

Then there is a forum all about relationships (family, friends, lovers, etc) that I mostly lurk on. It has thousands of posters!

If I have time, I lurk at a couple more boards.  But that's once in a blue moon.

    How about you?

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I post to the TV Talk board and here. I used to post on the Days personal board, but I got burned out over there. I don't like spoilers, so I stay away from the other Days board, but I'd sure love to have someone to talk to about what's going on with Days lately...Blinkie
  • I only post on the OLTL personal board. I sometimes lurk on the other MD soap side of the boards. I lurk on DOOL, OLTL, AMC and Y & R. I have sometimes lurked on other types of boards, like those for people who are now an empty nester. I've looked at other boards too, and I hate the way they are set up to read, reply, add a message, or add a topic. MD is so user friendly. Plus, it seems people on other boards are just mean to one another. I'm trying to limit myself from neg. people. That is why I stay here. :-) eom/Grace
  • Media Domain was the first discussion forum I found. I started with AMC and OLTL....lurked for a long time. Now, I only post on the OLTL boards, but I lurk on the AMC and DOOL boards. I will, once in a great while, post on the DOOL board. Through the years I've found other boards but have never stayed with them....I'd never have the time. Besides, I like it here best. :)Tori
  • OMG, you don't want to KNOW! I post on the TV Talk board, AMC Personal Board, this one, Myspace, Marine Parents, Recruit Parents - all on a regular basis. There are other boards I check out regularly but don't normally post on them. ( I have 3 pages of BB updates open now)... Several soap boards. oh, I LOVE spoilers... I'm one that would skip to the end of the book too, to see how it ends. LOL/Gma b@s
  • I try to avoid spoilers...like surprises. lol :)Tori
  • Nice to know I'm not alone! I love lurking most cuz then I avoid the responsibility of responding to other's responses. If you have too many topics posted, it can be exhausting to answer everyone! That's why I hardly post anymore. I agree that MD's board style is the best! (pickles)
  • Oh and Blinkie, anytime ya wanna talk about Days, just post and I'll come a runnin! :o) Sometimes I like spoilers, sometimes not (pickles)
  • How about now! Is that even appropriate on the OLTL board?...Blinkie
  • I avoid spoilers too. pickles and Blinkie, I'll talk Days with you. My Mom watchs Days also, she is the one who hooked me on soaps/stories in the first place. :-) eom/Grace
  • Hey Blinkie, you can talk about DOOL on THIS board (not the OLTL soap side). I'm sure no one would mind! It is no different than when others talk about Survivor or whatever! Maybe do it once a week or something (pickles)
  • I just might fo that, especially when they do something really stupid...Blinkie
  • Or ''do'' that. My fo-ing days are over. LOL...Blinkie
  • LOL on your fo-ing Blinkie! I haven't foed in a long time! LOL BTW, maybe we should have a weekly Soap topic then. Where we can just talk about any of our soaps for that week. That way everyone can get involved (well everyone who still watches soaps!). What do you think? (pickles)
  • At MediaDomain I only post on this board. I used to post on AMC and TVTalk too but haven't in a few years on either of those. I post on a board over at YUKU and I lurk on a couple other boards. I'm on a few email groups and have been since the mid 90s. But I get those as a daily digest and rarely participate any more. /joEllen
  • Sounds good to me. Some weeks have more to talk about than others, but this board is pretty slow, so a soap topic would be fun...Blinkie

  • LOL Grace! Are you my mother? LOL When I'm 76yrs, I hope I'm in good health, full of energy and doing interesting things and have a cute boyfriend about 60! LOL (pickles)
  • Well, I expect I'll still be a night owl too. My grandma used to stay up all night reading. I'll probably stay up all night playing on the computer... They'll surely be kickass computers then... Right?! LOL/Gma b@s
  • Yeah we'll all be a bunch of old ladies and still be posting at the OLTL board! LOL (pickles)

  • Lol pickles! No, I am not your Mother. I take it she enjoys recording her stories too. Smart woman, that way you can FF thru the stuff you don't want to watch, and rewind if you miss something good. :-) eom/Grace
  • I'll only be 75 in 30 years. I'll be here too. :-) eom/Grace
  • Grace, I can hardly remember watching my stories without a fast forward button....I love my DVR. :)Tori

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Tori, Summer does not offically end until September 21st. Sept. 22nd is the first day of fall on my calendar. Don't be sad, summer is not over yet. I love the fall colors. I am not crazy about winter myself. :-) eom/Grace
  • Yeah.... were just moving into Indian Summer!! I too love the colors...seems like summer just zipped by I think because of all the fires here in Calif. it really put a dent in June/July. TDQ
  • What I dislike the most is less daylight time...have really started noticing that lately. :)Tori
  • You are right about the days starting to get shorter. When I was a kid we played hide & seek in the summer til ten o'clock at night!! Seems like summer was one big celebration back in those days!! TDQ
  • Yeah, I notice there is less daylight each day too. Seems like it is pitch black by 8:00pm here in St. Louis. eom/Grace
  • ITA with you Tori! Where did our summer go! *sobs* (pickles)
  • Oh, I love it when the days get shorter . . . . .g
  • I love it when the days get cooler...like under 100...Blinkie, who can't wait for summer to be over
  • LOL, Blinkie...under a 100. I don't mind the heat or the cold. What I really don't like is the artificial heatng and cooling...guess I'm just a natural gal. Tori
  • I gotta have a/c, but I could do without the electric bill that comes with it...Blinkie
  • I'm with you, Blinkie. I cannot handle the heat. The a/c must be on. It is really the humidity that gets to me more than the temp. but a high temp does me in too. I really like fall the most. The cool crisp air, and the colorful leaves. eom/Grace
  • We don't get too many colorful leaves here, but the winters are the best. The air is crisp, and the snow on the surrounding mountains is breathtaking...Blinkie

GACK, she's a teenager now... my youngest, however, takes after his dad and he has STRAIGHT hair and LOTS of it. You can cut off half an inch of his hair all over and fill a gallon jug with it. It's sooo dense. I do have to admit though, I'd rather have the curly/poofy then board straight. Elfgirl has board straight and I TRIED to put perms in it using small tight rollers and it would fall out almost immediately. Whereas, mine will hold a style if I take time to style it. /Gma b@s
  • I have always enjoyed the nicknames you have for your kids. They make me smile. :-) eom/Grace
  • b@s does have that come hither look in that pic LOL b@s my hair behaves that way too and like you, I'd rather not have bone straight hair! I don't like using those straighteners either (pickles)
  • I had to take my picture on THAT side of my face because the other side of my mouth turns down and looks like I'm frowning. (well, not exactly down but it doesn't turn up)... I have noticed that Kylie (my granddaughter) has the same mouth and eyes. /Gma b@s
  • I TOTALLY think so too b@s and was gonna say something to that effect, but I couldn't remember Kylie's name! You two are twinsies! lol (pickles)
  • The new hairdo looks cute b@s. /JoEllen

    Hey, Pickles!

Like you, I'm extremely picky about my hair.  When I was a kid, my mother took me to her hairdresser and I swear, the woman only knew how to cut one way - boy-short!!!  I always dreaded going to get my hair cut too.  One time she did such a horrible job of it, that I came home, put on a touque, locked myself in the bathroom, and sworn I wouldn't come out until it had all grown back (LOL!!!).

Today, because of those nightmarish haircuts, I'm so picky that I will only let one hairdresser cut my hair, and she's been doing it now for over 25 years.  A while back, she took a sabbatical, and I was pretty devastated.  When I went in, they told me that she was away, but someone else would be happy to cut my hair in her place.  I was never so scared and nervous in my life.  The guy didn't do such a bad job, but it wasn't the way she did it.  After that, I decided that I'd wait until she returned before I'd get my hair cut again.  I'll be going in a couple of weeks!

  • Hi Cutey! Glad to see you here! LOL on your hair adventures. I cheated on my hairdresser once and totally regretted it. She is usually soooo careful about my hair because it's on the long side, so she is always asking me ''this much?'' so she doesn't take too much off. This time, she was like Sweeney Todd with the razor, just a crazy woman! LOL (pickles)
  • I also had to laugh at the David Cassidy picture and the caption next to him. I think we all know why he doesn't/didn't plan to get married (LOL)...in retrospect that was a really bad hairstyle, though he was really cute, and, yes, I also had his posters hanging on my wall in my bedroom./Cutey
  • Cutey, I had a short hair horrid cut as a kid too. I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. I cried and cried after that cut. The bullys at school said I looked like a boy. It took until I was 44 to get my hair cut above my shoulders. I am 45 now, so it took me a long time to go short again. :-) eom/Grace
  • You poor girls and your bad haircuts. I had SUPER long hair until I was 11, and then I got a shoulder length bob. It wasn't until I was 16, that I went all punk and got my hair all chopped off (well not totally lol). I still have the ponytail from my first haircut! (pickles)
  • bad haircuts and perms can haunt us forever. :)Tori
  • Hi Tori! Don't even get me started on bad perms! LOL (pickles)
  • One of my grandmothers gave me the perm from hell when I was a kid...I never wanted another perm. :)Tori
  • What's w/Grandmothers and perms!?? My Grandmother gave me a ''Tonette'' perm once and I looked like a french poodle! I've never had another one!! That's why I'd never get a tatoo....I can't even deal w/ a kerrappie H/C!! TDQ
  • I remember *Tonette* perms. I never had one. I sure remember the commericals though. :-) eom/Grace
  • LOL thanks for the trip down memory lane! (pickles)

Hi Pickles!! Actully that is a great do!!!......on David Cassidy! I'm sure you look great!! I do like the layering!! I got a H/C on Wed. I was long over due!! I'm extremely picky & would rather get a root canal than a H/C!! Well maybe not! I can never get it styled the way my hairdresser does but I like the shape and movement. My trkdrvr was sick of seeing me w/a bun!! ; ) I went to a BBQ/Bash at my Yoga teachers home today. I really enjoyed it. They had live music...several bands lined up to play....I only saw 2 as I needed to get back to my pet-sittin! People were still arriving when I left!! I had to talk myself into going but I'm glad I walked through my fear of new people & places!! Actually I knew quite a few gals from yoga class....and a couple of folks from the radio station. I'm in heaven!.... they have BRAVO here where I'm spending the night and I'm catching up on ''Project Runway's'' new season!! I love these marathons!

  • Good for you on picking yourself up and going to the BBQ/Bash. I know I wouldn't have been able to do that. /JoEllen
  • TDQ, Sounds like you had a lot of fun at your BBQ bash. I wish I were brave enough to go to things without Mr. Grace. There is a picnic coming up in the new neighborhood I moved to. Mr. Grace is going to be coming back from out of town busniess, the day of the picnic. I don't want to go alone. I only know one other neighbor, if they don't go I won't know a soul. Mr. Grace says I should just go and meet everyone. He is right, but I am feeling to shy to go alone. Who knows, I may change my mind the day of the picnic. :-) eom/Grace
  • Hi TDQ! Hi JE! Sounds like you had a great time at the BBQ. Glad you went! I have the opposite problem with my stylist. I never like how she styles my hair at the salon! I can't wait to fix it myself. This time, I have NO idea how to fix it LOL Yeah, I look like DC but w/o the bangs *sigh* (pickles)
  • Hi Grace! If I lived close to ya, I'd go with you! (pickles)
  • Hi pickles, If you lived close I'd love for you to come along with me. :-)/Grace
  • Evening gals!! I want to encourage you to go to the neighborhood party Grace....once I was there in the moment my fears were gone!! I was there fairly early so I sat myself up on the front porch and greeted people!! It worked out great! With that many guests they were happy to have someone greet them and tell them where to finds drinks etc!! I bet nobody guessed I was a newbie!!and I met alot of nice folks. Pickles I'm glad you started the SAT CHAT....Saturday evenings can be a bit lonesome. TDQ
  • I might go to the picnic. I'll see how I feel that day. ;-) eom/Grace
  • I avoid those large group things whenever possible...I hate crowds...never know what to say...I'm not a good mingler. I'm fine with small groups where I can really talk with someone and not just engage in iddle chit chat. Large groups make me nervous. :)Tori
  • I'm actually good at that sort of thing! Judging from these responses, maybe I'm just gifted that way LOL (pickles)
  • pickles, I can stand up in from of hundreds of people and give a speech, but put me in a room and tell me to mingle I nearly die. :)Tori
  • Tori, OMG! There is no way I'd stand in front of hundreds of people and give a speech. I remember giving a speech in front of about 25 people in high school, my knees were shaking so much I thought they would knock together! I would much rather mingle. Still I have to not be in a shy mood. I think you are brave. pickles, you are very outgoing, you do have a gift with people. eom/Grace
  • Yeah speeches scare me to death! So I tip my hat to ya Tori! And thanks Grace ! I guess I have the gift of gab! (pickles)
