Additional Comments: Waaaah! Shells has closed several of its restaurants in Florida--one of which is the one at Holmes Beach on Anna Maria. When we'd stay on the island my tradition was to have my first dinner there and my last one before we left--with others in between. The place was always packed. People would be lined up waiting for it to open in the early evening. What went wrong? :-(

That's too bad. Although we were only in a Shell's a couple of times. We had another seafood place on the bay we loved which I, of course, can't come up with the name of now. AND it closed not too long before we left there. I guess a LOT of things are going to close with the economy in the mess it is in. :-(

Oh this make me so sad... Mr. Bunk and I live in MN, but we travel to Florida every chance we get. One of the first restaurants we tried in Florida (over 15 years ago) was Shells -- advice we received from a sweet little old man walking the beach. Now it is a tradition, we have to hit Shells every time we visit the state. LOVED their garlic shrimp! They gave you a whole bowl full! Do you know if they closed the one in Sarasota on Hwy 41 (Tamiami Trail?)

The economy went wrong. I did a search and found this Shells Closings

I've never eaten in a Shells but I have seen them and heard that they were good. I liked Bennigans and for a quick bite to eat I loved Steak and Shake. ( or is it Steak and Ale - I always get that name mixed up.

I read an article yesterday on the internet that was talking about how slow Christmas sales are going to be this year. It will mean a lot of small stores will be going out of business.

I know we are going to be cutting back and I was planning on giving gift cards this year, either to stores or for restaurants. Now I don't know if the places will even be open after Christmas!

Even the big retailers are closing stores. I work customer service at a mall. The Disney Store and both Gap and Gap Kids are gone. Starbucks may be going.Although Steve and Barry's is closing stores, ours will remain open.It is scary!/U
