Topic: Big Idol News!

Additional Comments:

I'm starting early this time. A couple of things came in already that I thought I needed to post right away. I still might put on a separate one for other news items and the song list on Monday. The topic travels up the page fast so it just might be easier to put on a separate topic. Right now, some of the song spoilers are in this soon and the big news is about David Archuletta's father being banned from backstage and the rehearsal time. More is developing but read what has come in and comment if you want. Same with the Song choices which I will update as more come in. I'll put these posts separate again here so you can respond on the post or put your own individual post on.

I found this on the same site where I got that information:

ETAA: The Associated Press is wasting no time. They are reporting the story, citing an unnamed source…

I just saw that about David's father when I signed on this morning. What a character! The sad part is that I loved the way he threw in Beautiful Girls. I understand that AI was upset that they had to pay another clearance fee (although don't you need to play more than a few notes of a song before that happens?) but come on, these kids make AI a gazillion dollars!!!

  • I didn't even notice that he had thrown that in. I still have it on tape from doing that and DWTS so I have been wanting to go back and listen again. I think the reason AI is upset is that after agreeing that he would sing it the way it was written, that he changed it on the Live show. I don't know the legalities of how much of a song has to be played or sung to warrant a fine or fee, but it was just the underhandedness of the whole thing. This will go against David A.'s reputation as long as he is controlled by his dad. Maybe they aren't sure of wanting him to win now unless certain stipulations are written into his contract about Jeff. Sure the kids make a lot of money for AI but you let that happen once and other contestants will feel like they can do the same. Plus, it's a good excuse to finally have to ban him from backstage. Maybe they didn't have enough credible reasons before. ~ eom. Linda

I wonder why they waited so long.    From what people have said that were around when he was on shows in the past, he has been a huge PITA.    I feel very sorry for David now because he has probably been so brow-beaten by his father that he just did what he was told by him.    I kindof hope he doesn't win because I think David C is way more prepared for it at this point, but this may garner him a bunch of sympathy votes now.    Guess we'll see.    I like the kid and hope he can turn 18 soon and put some distance between himself and his apparently VERY controlling father.

Re the songs, that is one interesting choice Simon made for David Cook.   Hmmmmm.   Could be a real good one as I hear it in my mind.

  • I kind of think David Cook would do better without AI telling him what he has to record, so I'm not so sure it would be the best for him to win...Blinkie
  • Gail--I have been wondering that too. I think they were willing to put up with it so as not to make too much bad press for their ''wonder boy''. If it was a contestant that they didn't want to see win, they probably would have done something sooner. But Jeff finally pushed that final button in causing them fines. As W.E. said, below, they should make Jeff pay for those fines. David is such a nice kid and I feel very sorry for him myself. If everything is true, from Star Search on, this kid has really been taking it. I hope turning 18 by the end of this year will help but I'm wondering if he will have to wait until 21 to be totally free. I have mixed feelings on David A. winning. In one way I want David C. to win but then knowing how other non-winners have done better, I think it is better he doesn't. Then with David A., I'm just wondering what he will go through with his father if he doesn't win. Which will be worse for David A.? You are right about the sympathy votes. I guess we just wait and see. ~~ I like the song that Simon chose for DC but thought it would be better for Syesha. Then, again, you never know what DC will come up with to change it to his own. I think Simon just wanted to hear him sing something other than rock. ~ eom. Linda
  • Blinkie--That's what I've been thinking. Plus I'm just wondering what poor Little David might go through with his father if he doesn't win. What would be worse for him and AI? If David A. wins, I'm sure there will be certain stipulations in his contract regarding his father! ~ eom. Linda
  • I've said many times, it doesn't matter who wins, especially at this point in the competition. I have no clue what's up with his dad or what will set him off, but if he's abusive it probably doesn't matter as he'll find a reason one way or another...Blinkie

David Archuleta’s Dad Banned from Idol?

    http://mjsbigblog.com/david-archuletas-dad-banned-from-idol.htm

According to the brainstrust at TMZ David Archuleta’s dad, Jeff Archuleta is banned, baby!

Here’s how it went down. “Idol” sources tell TMZ Jeff has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production. He has badgered producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other contestants. The final straw came this week, when Jeff wanted to change the lyrics to David’s first song, “Stand By Me.” Jeff insisted on adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s hit, “Beautiful Girls.” Producers sent him an e-mail telling him the lyrics could not be changed. They were beyond pissed when David sang the song with Kingston’s lyrics during the live show.

We’re told by changing the lyrics, it created problems with the song’s publisher and cost “A.I.” a lot of money.

Jeff was ordered to sit with “A.I.” lawyers on Wednesday, who told him he was “banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs.” It’s “Idol’s” position, since David is 17, he does not need a guardian — just a teacher. Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show but he’s 86′d from anything backstage.
Sources say the other contestants were fed up with Jeff and didn’t want him near them. Now they have their wish.

I generally avoid linking to TMZ , but I’m making an exception here, ’cause I have a feeling the story is true. Where there’s smoke there’s fire ya know.

In a matter of hours, E! Online, Entertainment Weekly, MTV et al are gonna be all over this story. More will be revealed, I’m sure.

ETA: An excellent question brought up by peeps in comments. Did TPTB leak this story to TMZ? Most of us believe the producers themselves link information to TMZ . If Idol leaked this story, what’s their motivation?

    Speculate and discuss!

  • I just read this on my home page and came to see if you had it here. You had more details (and jucier ones!)... It'll be interesting to see how David does with his dad gone. I love the kid, but wish he'd have waited a couple years to mature before being thrown to the lions. - Doopy
  • I just read that on TMZ. Maybe the 'shows' motivation is to cast some negativity on David A and get the focus on David Cook. Perhaps they don't want to deal with David A's father IF he should win the show. ............. suzyb
  • The show's motivation just might be to lessen the fine they have to pay by publicly proving it was David's dad and not the producers who made the decision. Maybe the father should be made to pay the fine - bet that'd shut him up.eom/WE
  • Well, I'm glad I had the better information, LOL! If you notice, above, I have confirmed info now from AP. You can't get better than AP. ~~ I think his dad is pushing him too soon. Sure, there have been other kids his age that have done well, but I think they had a little more maturity. It just doesn't seem like he has had a choice in all of this. I'm wondering, too, if David will do worse with his father gone or better? Maybe TPTB are doing this to help David Cook more towards the win if David A. can't do anything without his father butting in. Even so, I think it is more the matter of the money AI had to pay out more than the putting up with the stage father. I've been noticing something, too. Whenever they cut to the audience to show who is here supporting Little David, they always say, ''David's Dad and (Family or Friends)''. Never ''David's Parents'' or David's Mom and Dad''. What has happened to his mother? I think I saw her there once. ~ eom. Linda
  • suzyb--TMZ is where it was leaked but because they can't always be trusted, I don't always put things on from there and neither does the site I go onto-www.mjsbigblog.com . But even they said that this time they believed TMZ because so much has been going on about his father. If you notice, I put on an addition above to all of this from the AP confirming this all. AP has credibility so that shows that there must be something true about this story. It will be on all the tabloid shows for sure. I wondered about them getting the focus on David C. instead too, but I think the matter of the money is more important right now. Why didn't they ever say anything before otherwise? Although, I'm sure they were glad to have an good excuse for kicking him out so it does hurt David A.'s chances and they won't have his dad to deal with. ~ eom. Linda
  • W.E.--That sure would shut him up!! He should be made to pay the fine or else sued by AI. This might also hurt David's credibility in the future as far as trust goes and that he would always do what his father tells him even if those in charge don't want him to do something. It looks like as long as David has ties to his dad, he is going to have problems. You have something there, though, that by bringing this out right after the show just aired, maybe they can do damage control in showing it was not their decision. Otherwise, other companies might be wary of giving them rights to their songs in the future. Will ''Little David'' be the one to bring down the Golieth Idol? ~ eom. Linda
