You heard it here first: America, you voted...the winner of American Idol 2008 is Syesha Mercado. I've just given up on her ever being eliminated.
I knew Jason was safe the minute they called him out first because after the beating AI has been getting since Paulagate there was no way they were going to make Jason sit on a stool for fifty minutes tonight. I am so glad Jason is still around, if only to rub 19Evil's nose in their underhanded efforts to throw him under the bus.
Lamest addressing of the issue ever. Making Paula into the victim. Right. They pretty much apologized and coddled Paula but didn't apologize to Jason. He was the one you people screwed with and hurt. I desperately hoped Ryan was going to say "The rumors aren't true. Paula is not a time traveler."
But again, much like Paula's obviously untruthful responses, Seacrest's little "we love Paula" speech last night convinces me even more that there's something really, really not kosher going on here. If it's a simple, innocuous explanation like rehearsal notes, why don't you just say that? Lying and noncommittal half-denials are not tactics used when a situation is totally on the up-and-up. They are used by people who have something to hide.
Ok, seriously, show. How many girls are you going to drag over to Archie to try to pretend he's not asexual like a 12 year old? I'm not buying that. I wonder if he gasped sweet nothings in her ear?
Oh DCook, you are pretty damn intelligent when it comes to this game. Finally someone is.
I bet Brooke is still crying.

Thank you very much for the recap songbird.
Jason should have at the very least been in the bottom two. He really needs to go... part of me wonders if he really even wants to be there. I have grown to really like Syesha, I think she is a classy young woman. I can see her on broadway in many types of roles, so she will do just fine. I would like to see her in the finals with David Cook, but I still say that the finals will be the battle of the Davids. I really do not want to see that annoying little David Archiletto ( sp??) get the boot. I sure hope he does not win. David Cook deserves to be the idol, but win or not he will have a great career.
Jason phoned in his performances this week. He should have gone. At least Brooke TRIED, and she was very good in her second song, IMO. She cares too much; Jason doesn't care enough, or at least comes across like he doesn't.
If a girl had to go, I thought it should be the unmemorable Syesha. She just doesn't have the "it" factor, to me. She could have a good career, depending on where exactly she goes (theater? what genre?) but she has not wowed me very often this season. Once or twice, yeah. The others (including Jason) have all had quite a few better moments than she has, again just for me. I know Syesha has some fans here; I'm just not a big supporter. She's okay enough, that's it.
David Cook remains my choice to win. He's done a lot to impress me.
Thank you for your reviews and recaps. I just skipped to the chase yesterday. I was so annoyed to see Sayesha in the bottom two - she was the top person on Dial Idol! Jason and Brooke were the bottom two there.
Brooke was better on Tuesday than I had heard her for quite a while. Jason continued to go downhill. He isn't even TRYING. Maybe it is time for the judges to just shut up and let the audience decide. It seems that Simon's praise is the kiss of death for these kids, while his diss saves them for another week.
I am curious to know what the friction between Neil and Simon is/was. Wimpy of Simon not to say also for him to not critique Natasha’s performance. I know it is the wise thing to refuse to avoid burning bridges, but it’s so easy to rip on those who you have power over.
As to Paula’s gaffe-it may have been semi understandable that she was caught off guard, but I still think she came off looking like a twit. Yes, Nigel’s an idiot and so is the Fox guy for tweaking what was planned.
I’m trying to imagine the scenario of a nine year old simon and his first kiss. = ) Best part of the show, that call...
Although I had grown to like Jason, I thought performance wise he should have gone before Brooke. I know Sy has been improving, but she is so uninteresting to me. Blandsville. Granted, Brooke cries too much and can’t seem to get a grip on her nerves or her depth, her voice is a lot more interesting and pleasing to me. If Jason doesn’t bring it next week (which is probably too late anyway) this show will have hit serious dullsville. Can we inject DA with some mind altering substance to get him to sing with some ---I don’t even know! Maybe he could get a Sanjaya ‘do and sing some nasty punk rock FY, anarchy song. Shak e it up, boy!
Elaine, did you go back to visit your mother in law just to see her neighbor’s reaction to the results show? Would’ve been much better, I think!
Oh, whatever happened to Natasha’s brother Daniel? Did he have any other songs other than “if you’re not the one”?

One thing I have a question about. This is the third (I think) time that they sang a song in the group number medley that was just done by one of the contestants the night before. I realize that the group number must be set up way ahead of time before the contestants decide what song they will sing. So if a song is already set up in the group number, why is it on the song list for the contestants to pick from. That just doesn't make sense when there are so many other songs for them to choose. This also was the third time that Jason started the group number. No one else can do it?
I was glad that Ryan corrected things about last night and said, regarding Paula, that rumors were false. I know she can have her strange moments but this was not one of them. Nigel through them all off by doing this and he screwed up the show by throwing in that sudden change. He should have just left it to critique after both songs. Either that or they should have gone an extra half hour.
Now that my rant is done--I liked the FORD commercial a lot better than last week, Natashia is a lot better than Leona, IMO, and Neil did a great performance! I hate the phone calls but loved the one for Simon from his first crush. That was funny but sweet at the same time. You mean Simon was once 9 years old? LOL!
Eliminations--As soon as I saw Jason come out, I figured he was safe then remembered that Ryan called Chikezie out first and sent him to the stools. So I still had hope. Then Ryan dashed that hope by sending Jason to the couches. Well, then it was easy to figure that it was the two girls together but Ryan never said "The Bottom 2". Later I noticed that Syesha was the top one in the Dial Idol predictions so that could be why Ryan didn't call them the "Bottom 2". It was another thing to fool you. It seems AI is all about tricks this year doesn't it? I had hoped that Syesha would stay and she did. She is really improving. I agree with who went home even though I was hoping it was Jason first.
I hope next week's theme will be much better for the contestants as they will be able to pick something that they actually know.
