Topic: Wow, that was fast (V)

Additional Comments:  One episode and I'm already done. I think I'm just done with prime time except comedies. First, the show must be designed for people with extreme attention deficit disorder because it just moves too damn fast. I can't figure out the rush. They crammed two hours' worth of suspense and drama into one plot-heavy hour. But the clincher for me was when all of the real-world HUMAN problems (unnecessary wars, economic collapse, terrorism and religious fanaticism) were all blamed on aliens. Uh, no, these are people who are doing all these things. I thought at least maybe the true identity of the aliens might be interesting, but no, they're still reptilian. For the new season, I'm sticking with Modern Family, The Middle, Community, and Parks and Recreation.

I think that they revealed the fact that they were aliens to fast, and that the people accepted them too readily. Not beleiveable at all. I agreee that they could have made the plot a little different from the series.

I didn't hate it so will probably continue watching it even though I have to tape it every week.  It's on opposite NCIS which is ''must see'' for my husband!!  I really dislike the teen age boy!  What a dweeb!!!

  • Yay! Another one who didn't like the teenage brat. Boo-hoo, Mommy works to support me but I still need to be bitter. I hope he becomes Visitor food. Chewbacca
  • Gee whiz, Chewie, I'm sensing an extreme amount of hostility here. Reminds me of the extreme loathing *Star Trek: Next Generation* fans always had for the character Wesley Crusher - who was actually fashioned after the CREATOR OF THE SHOW. Anyway, me thinks there's something more going on here than meets the eye ... -Spell, the shrink ;-D
  • I think Chewie's just having some fun. And I'm tired of the teen angst thing, too. (Edward)
  • ''Spell, the shrink'' was just having some fun here too!! LOL eom fuzzwuzz
  • Yeah, on further thought I'm sure people could make a lot out of some of the things I've said here too!! -Spell

Put me in with lisa3 - I liked it!  Though, as with almost all new shows these days, it really bugged me how little color there was.  Why does every drama have to look washed-out in greys and browns??  Especially with a big story like this one, I'd like to have seen it in vivid, in-your-face, bright colors.  Oh well.

I'll definitely keep watching.  It's a "Hey, I Know That Actor!" star-fest!  But I am very disappointed to hear that they're giving us a pitiful four episodes, until spring.  Haven't they learned, with shows like "Lost" and "24"?  Don't make the viewers wait so long if you want to keep their loyalty.  (I know, I know, they all have their "reasons," but they could find a way if they were forced.)

They are saying that there are definately political references and kind of a 'slam' to Obama in this show.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • This show is too stupid to be taken seriously as any political commentary or slam toward anybody, except the intelligence of the audience. (Edward)
  • Where was the slam to Obama, katie? I didn't notice it. Thanks - Spell

I enjoyed it. The production values were really good and the basic plot is intriguing. On a weekly basis, I don't know how much interest I'll maintain, but most of this first episode worked for me.

I found the pilot trite and cliche-ridden.  I consider myself a science-fiction fan, but I'm not easily impressed by most sci-fi television series.  Really, the only ones that have ever really blown me away were Lost, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica (new series), and Torchwood (and many of the individual episodes of Torchwood are iffy).  (I am also a Dr. Who fan, but more out of nostalgia than the quality of the new series, which IMO has reverted the franchise back to being basically a children's show.)  I was as disappointed in "V"-redux as I have been with any sci-fi series since "Jeremiah".  I thought "Jeremiah" was a great idea and had incredible production values...  but it was clogged with flat stock characters, poorly written dialogue, and plotlines that were resolved as soon as they were begun with no building tension from episode to episode.  (Plus, 40-year-old Luke Perry was badly cast as the 25-year-old lead character.)  I found "V" to be much the same...  relatively nice production values, but poor writing, bland characters, and no reason to make me want to tune in to the next episode.

  • I am no sci fi fann but I love LOST and see so many other equally powerful facets of LOST than just sci fi, don't you? I can't wait until January. Helena

As someone who watched V in the 80's and loved it, I think ABC should have let Kenneth Johnson do his "Second Generation" series, which picked up 20 years after the end of the first V miniseries. That plot had another alien race, an enemy of the Visitors, answering Julie Parrish's radio distress signal and coming to Earth to help the Resistance. I think that would have been a lot better than another remake of the original.

And yes, it was extremely rushed and boring. What was good about the original is that it slowly unfolded, making the revelations more horrifying. It was also predictable. I knew Morris' Chestnut character was a Visitor when he said "she can't know anything about my past."

I'll give it one more shot. The guy who created this also made "The 4400," which I also really enjoyed. The Anna character is interesting and I like the actress who plays her. But if they're going to have a full season in April, they have to slow it down and not dumb it down.

I'm with you. I'll probably watch next week, but I can't see this becoming must-see TV for me. What really got me was that in this post 9/11 world we're supposed to believe that people are so gullible as to believe that beautiful aliens would just appear in the sky with wonderful gifts and just be loved to death by the masses.

Plus, that stupid little news anchor guy just irked the hell out of me. I wanted to slap him everytime he opened his mouth.

  • OMG, it was ridiculous that everyone instantly trusted and embraced the aliens, instead of at least fear and skeptcism followed by trust. But I guess that's how it goes when you're in such a hurry and logic gets tossed aside. (Edward)
  • '' . . . we're supposed to believe that people are so gullible as to believe that beautiful aliens would just appear in the sky with wonderful gifts and just be loved to death by the masses.'' Remember last year's presidential election?
  • Sorry, I voted for Obama and I don't feel suckered in any way. Of course, I'd rather die than vote Republican. I'm just sayin... (Edward)
  • Sorry Josh. Last year's election wasn't about looks. It was about SMART people taking the country back from some low-IQ frat boy and refusing to give it to an aged out-of-touch war hero and Caribu Barbie. We have an INTELLIGENT MAN in the White House now, thank God. Now dear, we came to this thread to talk about a television show. I'm sure that somewhere there are people who are happy to trash the president with you. Go find them and leave us alone.(Mrs. B. H.)
  • LOL at trying to compare the aliens with Obama. How predictable of that element of our society to come up with yet another sad, lame attempt at disrespecting our president and trying to sway the masses. I'm beginning to think even the masses are smarter right now than the desperate wingnut Obama haters. Small minds fear anything outside of their perameters. Helena

Watch the commercials, and that's it and enough.  I'm done too with drama shows.  If you like it, it's cancelled.  If you like it, it won't be on because of elections, changed time slot, new night sports or other really important things networks must show like every other cable show is showing!  I really liked the Eleventh Hour last year and *poof* it was gone.

Plus reruns are forever and I'll watch them later.  I've recently enjoyed One Tree Hill this way.  It's on cable, never watch the new episodes.

I actually enjoyed it but I never watched the original when it was on TV so I was kind of intrigued. My daughter and I both liked it but some of it was a bit predictable. I will tune in again but not for long if it goes on hiatus after 4 episodes like the above post says.

Obviously, those same Suits (or their mental equivilant) from daytime are at it again.  They think so little of their 'desired' demos that they ruin a potentially good thing.  I wasn't all that interested in 'V' the first time around--except for Jane Badler (ex-OLTL).  It doesn't surprise me that this isn't well told, well written or intelligent.  They think that the WHOLE audience has the collective attention span of a gnat & brains of oatmeal/mush.  If they thought more of their audience (daytime & primetime) we would be seeing better television!

Yep-did not do anything for me. I'll give it one more episode just for kicks but I was not impressed with anything that I saw last night. Best thing I can say about the show is the main song that they used during the previous.

I expected them to try to be a little different than the original serier. I am stuck in not wanting to see lizzards..maybe that is just me :-)

  • As soon as I saw that reptilian face, I was like oh, here we go again, 20-plus years and same old, same old. They could have chosen to do something completely different to make their true appearance disturbing and terrifying, but they were too lazy. (Edward)
