I thought Carrie and Brad did a great job hosting the CMA. I loved all the references to K. West. They really put him down- as he deserved. Carrie has a great voice, but for the life of me, I still don't 'get' Taylor Swift. She's cute, but I just don't think she has that great of a voice.
What was really weird is that it looked like the girl that was with one of the Brooks & Dunn was sitting in his lap????? Was I seeing right? They couldn't get her a seat? That looked awful weird.
What did you guys think?

Taylor should have never won all of those awards. Don't get me wrong I think the girl is precious I adore her but there are so many other performers who are better singing country. I think Taylor is going to burn out really quickly at the speed she is going rite now. Look at what happened to Tanya Tucker and Leanne Rimes. They both started out in their early teens.
Leanne Rimes looked really bad last night. My husband said she looked like she had been rode hard. Judging from all of the messsing around she has been doing with Eddie Cibrian she probably has been rode hard ;).
I love Meranda Lambert and I think she is constantly overlooked.
Man Winona looks more like a drag queen everytime I see her. That woman scares me!!!
I thaught Carrie and Brad did a great job hosting the show.
My Man George Strait should have won Entertainer of the year in my opinion. He could entertain me by singing the phone book
Not sorry to Brooks and Dunn break up. I never could stand to watch them.
I loved Reba she is always a class act in my opinion.
Kenny Chestney and Dave Matthews were really good. I never noticed until last night what a great voice Dave M. has.
I really enjoyed the tribute to Barbara Mandrell .
Lady Antebellum were great as well.
I agree, and I also agreed with Wynona Judd who was quoted as actually saying she thought this was all "too early" to be happening in Taylor's life. You know what this kind of thing reminds me of? The year that black woman ... darn my brain, I can't think of her name right now ... a folk singer, won so many major American Music (or was it Grammy?) Awards she couldn't even hold all of them to be photographed! It was so dumb; this girl was definitely good, but such a niche singer (this was before folk music made such a huge comeback in the last few years) that it just didn't make sense for her to win so much like that. And she certainly hasn't gone on to have many No. 1 hits since (if any?), which proved that vote misguided.
So, long story short, I think all of these big awards shows are mainly political now. Such a shame; they're really a nice idea, initially, but they end up getting so influenced by the industry execs that it means next to nothing. (Who knows what kind of money changes hands to influence votes behind the scenes?)
But then, darn it, I can't help it, I'm still a sucker when it comes to watching them. Kind of like watching an expensive circus, I guess.

Ok, so it's not just me, re...Taylor Swift. In fact, I had only heard her sing 2 songs before she was on SNL last weekend. Honestly, I thought they were the same song...they sounded just alike. That second song she sang on SNL was something new and not very good, IMHO. I missed her last night.
She always comes off sounding like a really nice person, so, good for her. As for her on SNL, she was definately MVP so far this season. She was in almost all skits and did very well in all of them. Kudos to her.
As for what I saw of the awards last night...
Lady Antebellum...local boys gone good! The two guys are from where I live. We get a fair amount of news on them when they do something, and they did a free concert here last year. I'm proud for them, and, yeah, I like the way the group sounds.
Zac Brown Band...why re-make "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" when it pretty much sounds exactly the same as the original?
Brad Paisley. Cute guy. Dreadful song performance last night. Oh, and dreadful song. I hadn't heard it before, and hope I don't again, plus his movements did nothing for me. Go back and get Dolly Parton and do that duet of "When I Get Where I'm Going" again.
I like the Miranda Lambert performace, however.
Oh, well, congratulations to all. Wish I'd gotten to see more of the show.
Because she doesn't have that great of voice and just sings, compared to others like Mariah, Beyonce, Christina, etc. that hold notes for 30 minutes and can sometimes sound like they're being murdered, I think people find that refreshing.
I also think timing has a lot to do with it, in that we have Miley Cyrus and the Disney girls real popular right now, and fans of those (and their parents) also buy Taylor's music as well.
Lastly, it's country music. You don't need to have a powerful voice to sing that genre of music. Otherwise, Kenny Chesney wouldn't have had a career (I can't stand his nasally whiny voice).

What I don't understand is what went wrong for almost every performer. None of them were in great voice last night. They all seemed to have clinkers & hardly any of them sounded like they brought their A game to the show. If I had never heard Taylor Swift before & went only on that lame song she did, I wouldn't think she deserved any of the awards she got. Fortunately, I HAVE heard her do better. But it wasn't just her who was 'off' last night. Maybe everyone has been touring so much that they were a bit off. I don't know. I just know that it wasn't the best example of country I've ever heard.
I didn't catch much of the show last night...heard this morning on country radio that Taylor Swift won in all her categories....even they were surprised!! I do like some of her music, but the girl can't carry a tune......top female vocalist....get real!!
