Additional Comments:

I'm starting early this time. A couple of things came in already that I thought I needed to post right away. I still might put on a separate one for other news items and the song list on Monday. The topic travels up the page fast so it just might be easier to put on a separate topic. Right now, some of the song spoilers are in this soon and the big news is about David Archuletta's father being banned from backstage and the rehearsal time. More is developing but read what has come in and comment if you want. Same with the Song choices which I will update as more come in. I'll put these posts separate again here so you can respond on the post or put your own individual post on.

I found this on the same site where I got that information:

ETAA: The Associated Press is wasting no time. They are reporting the story, citing an unnamed source…

David Archuleta’s Dad Banned from Idol?

http://mjsbigblog.com/david-archuletas-dad-banned-from-idol.htm

According to the brainstrust at TMZ David Archuleta’s dad, Jeff Archuleta is banned, baby!

Here’s how it went down. “Idol” sources tell TMZ Jeff has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production. He has badgered producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other contestants. The final straw came this week, when Jeff wanted to change the lyrics to David’s first song, “Stand By Me.” Jeff insisted on adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s hit, “Beautiful Girls.” Producers sent him an e-mail telling him the lyrics could not be changed. They were beyond pissed when David sang the song with Kingston’s lyrics during the live show.

We’re told by changing the lyrics, it created problems with the song’s publisher and cost “A.I.” a lot of money.

Jeff was ordered to sit with “A.I.” lawyers on Wednesday, who told him he was “banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs.” It’s “Idol’s” position, since David is 17, he does not need a guardian — just a teacher. Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show but he’s 86′d from anything backstage.
Sources say the other contestants were fed up with Jeff and didn’t want him near them. Now they have their wish.

I generally avoid linking to TMZ , but I’m making an exception here, ’cause I have a feeling the story is true. Where there’s smoke there’s fire ya know.

In a matter of hours, E! Online, Entertainment Weekly, MTV et al are gonna be all over this story. More will be revealed, I’m sure.

ETA: An excellent question brought up by peeps in comments. Did TPTB leak this story to TMZ? Most of us believe the producers themselves link information to TMZ . If Idol leaked this story, what’s their motivation?

Speculate and discuss!

The third song is picked by the producers.

Here are some more song spoilers for the other two contestants:

David Archuleta

* Paula Abdul choses for him - “And So it Goes” by Billy Joel

I’ll post spoilers here as they are revealed throughout the day…

From http://www.rickey.org:

David Archuleta likes “Blackbird” by Carly Smithson

"David Archuleta says that one of his favorite performance by another contestant this year is “Blackbird” by Carly Smithson."

"OMG — I love “Blackbird”! So many things in common…"

Replies: (list all replies)

  • Has Cook sang Collective soul before? (love that song) Because in the past I thought they could only choose songs they have sung before? I could be wrong though LOL
  • No, DC has not sung that song on AI before, and they can choose other songs. I think one time they had to take one of their previous songs and see if they could change it but they haven't done that in a long time. This is a new song for David Cook. I have a recent update on what songs they might sing in my Other Idol News topic below. Check those songs out. ~ eom. Linda
