Additional Comments:

see the show tonight. He played a patiant with ALS that was on life support. He wanted to be taken off of the support and donate his heart to a young man that was waiting on a heart. His Daughter did not want him to be taken off of life support.

I think that Mandy is amazing. I miss him on Criminal Minds and I loved him on Chicago Hope. I have heard that he is sometimes hard to work with. I don't know if that is true or not. All I know is he should be nominated for and Emmy for tonights performance

My Son was in line with him at the airport recently - asked him for an autograph and Mandy was very nice, visited for a while even - shook his hand, said it was nice to meet him, seems to me he must be a decent person.

Have loved him for years.  He sings too, did you know?  First saw him on The Princess Bride.  Yes, he is a great actor.  I missed the show you are talking about but wouldn't doubt for a minute that he was fabulous!

I haven't watched the episode yet, but I hope it's a lot better than previous ones have been.

As for Patinkin being difficult: I believe it. Example: Up until a couple of years ago, he was starring on Criminal Minds. Then one day he just did not show up for work. No explanation. This absence got a lot of publicity at the time. A recent article in TV Guide, I believe, quoted one of TPTB, who said that for a while back then, no one on the show knew if it would continue, if they would still have jobs, given that the star had failed to show up without explanation. He said "no one" on CM misses Patinkin, who quit apparently because the disturbing content of the show was too much for him. Why he couldn't have contacted anyone first and said he wouldn't be coming back, I do not know, but it makes him look really bad.

There's also widespread talk that Thomas Gibson (also on Criminal Minds) and Patinkin did not get along at all. Given that Gibson is still on the show, while Patinkin simply bailed....

  • I have a real problem w/actors saying that they have a problem w/a show's content, when they knew what they were getting into going into the project. Yrs ago there was an actress who was cast as the cheatin' wife of the leading man. The actress suddenly found this role distasteful because of the provocative clothes she wore & the fact that she had a new boy toy practically every other week. The role was written that way from the start! She didn't suddenly change in midstream. The same held for MP's character on Criminal Minds. Over the yrs they've gotten far more disturbing w/their content, but at the time that MP had his little hissy fit over it & used that as the excuse, I found it unbelieveable. He is talented, but he should have known better than to take on a role he wasn't going to commit to whole heartedly. eom
  • Agreed. Also, the way he didn't show up for work was stunningly unprofessional. Nothing was keeping him from meeting with TPTB and explaining that he wanted to quit, rather than just saying/doing nothing. eom/lisa3

Mandy Patinkin should get an emmy for that role.  I was crying so hard at the end and his portrayal was amazing.  I can't understand why the medical community feels the need to extend human life when the person is suffering and wants to pass on.  His daughter was being so selfish too.  Everyone was great in this episode.  I really like this show.
