I finally figured out why they seem to be whacking us over the heads with all the TV ads for upcoming movies.  It's Oscar season - the last months to get in movies the studios believe will be Oscar-worthy.  Not that that makes them necessarily better than others, but why there are so may ads, anyway.

I swear, if I see that ad for "The Blind Side," Sandra Bullock's new movie, one more time I'm gunna scream.  Why do they have to show it so darn much??  And where are they getting the money to show it so many times, during the biggest primetime shows??  Oscar dreams I guess, or they just want families to see it during holiday vacations.  Well I'm sorry but Sandra's last few movies tanked, and sucked.  And do we really need another touching football movie??  I think it's been done too many times already, with a lot of them being sorry retreads that just weren't any good.

And the ads for the new one with Robert DeNiro really bug me.  Isn't that the same story as "About Schmidt," a 2002 movie starring Jack Nicholson?  I think so.  I wonder how he feels about it.

I just wish there were more choices out there.  I'm just not seeing it in the ads, so far.  (The animated one "starring" Jim Carrey looks pretty good, though; has anybody seen it?)

I hardly ever go to the movie theatre anymore because of the crappy movies out there.  Other than the children's movies, there is nothing worth seeing.  The calibre of actors just isn't there anymore and the salaries for most of these not so great actors is insane.  I can't justify Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler or Jack Black making even one million for their stupid films.  The only great actors (Pacino, Nicholson, Hopkins) are getting up there and the up and coming so called stars are amateurs.  I don't know, I think the outlandish salaries and demands during this recession just rub me the wrong way.

  • Can you imagine making a movie like ''Its a mad mad mad mad world'' today? Number one the talent and artistic touch isnt there and second the cost would be astronomical. The last unique movie I saw was ''WAITRESS''. I liked ''LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE'' too

Since I posted this message I've noticed a couple of other movie ads I should have mentioned:

"Planet 51" - animated (looks funny, but may be too cutesy for my taste).

"2012" - how could I have missed this one?  I guess it's already playing, but it did start during this "Oscar season."  From what I've heard the action & special effects in it are pretty amazing, but it stretches credulity a lot, much like "Independence Day," another Roland Emmerich production (one of my all-time favorite movies!).  But I should say, even the best big sci-fi/action movies don't make it into Oscar territory; I guess Hollywood is stuck on looking for intense dramas or meaningful comedies.

I want to start seeing ads for the movie NINE. I've seen the trailers, but I haven't seen an ad on TV yet (that doesn't mean they haven't shown it, I buzz through most commercials). It doesn't open until late December, but I think it's time to start showing them.

  • I agree; it sounds like a real winner. Man, the amount of stars in it - amazing! I guess they're going to hit us with it on or around Christmas, and what do you want to bet it'll garner the most Oscar noms of all? -Spell
