I love Jimmy Fallon, so I'm thrilled at this news.  It was fun to see him on Conan's show last night to talk about the switchover (and it was cute how he immediately went to sit at Conan's desk - ha!).  His movie career has been a big failure, and I think he's far more suited to the TV format.

He gets nervous a lot when he's not following a script, and his twitching has often made me wonder whether he's high on something (or needs to be high on something).  So hopefully he can get better control over that before 2009, and will come up with plenty of ideas that'll keep him busy on the show.

I loved him on SNL, especially his newscasting, hilarious songs, and great impersonations (Barry Gibb among them).  I think his show will be wildly popular, especially among the younger viewers.  (Did anyone else see his monologue at one of the MTV award shows a few years ago?  The way he made fun of popular celebrities was priceless.)

Now, I'm just trying to figure how Conan will replace Jay.  Jay is so much more serious than Conan is and so contemptuous of silly humor.  So much of Conan's humor is silly stuff.  How will that go over with Jay's current audience??  I guess time will tell.

OH - I just remembered my very favorite Jimmy Fallon performance!  He had the best line in the movie "Almost Famous" with Kate Hudson.  He represented a rock band in the 60's, and he was giving the guys in the band a pep talk about going out there and doing concerts while they were young, not to wait.  He said, "just look at the Rolling Stones.  You don't think those guys will still be out there touring when they're 50, do you??"

I've always known I was in the minority in not liking JF, ever.  He was the main reason I stopped watching SNL on a regular basis.  He certainly isn't going to make me want to stay up late, or tape the talk show.

It's a good move for TPTB and Jimmy. I read that Tina Fey thinks he'll be great since he LOVES talking to people. He is affable and easily liked.

I didn't see him on Conan BUT just read an article on Frank Sinatra since its the 10th anniversary of his death. In the article quite a few celebs talk about him. Tony Bennett was doing a talk show when he first started out and was nervous and asked Frank for advice. The advice was that folks connect with you more if you seem nervous. The reasoning is you're human and approachable. Soooo if that's true Jimmy should be fine.

Jimmy Falen is a doll.  I can't picture him doing a talk show, but who knows?  I haven't seen any of his movies, tho I know the critics said the one with Queen Latifah was terrible.  Previews looked good to me.  I never noticed him shaking-hope he's not on anything.

As to Conan replacing Jay-he'll probably tone  it down a bit.  David Letterman did when he went to the earlier spot on CBS.  (I miss some of the gooofiness from the old show.)  But then, what's acceptable on TV i s forever broadening, so who knows?
