Subject: Are you talking about Tom Arnold (used to be married to Roseanne)? I used to think he was high too! He always had that weird look even when he was being funny! ~A&A's Mom

Subject: Wow, I hadn't thought of that before serialmom - I'm sure you're right! (Another one who comes to mind, and who I've commented about here before - Jimmy Fallon.) And I'm sure Bristol (below) is right too, that this is common among creative types, but that they resist taking medication for it because it stifles their creativity. Very interesting ... -Spell

Subject: Yes Tom Arnold. Jimmy Fallon fits tht profile too. Since we are obviously TV people LOL, I wonder what you think about Jimmy Fallon taking over Conan's spot? With all the real experienced comedians to choose, I am surprised Jimmy was selected. I read somewhere there's a possibility Jay may get a show on ABC. Lots of people prefer Dave, but he can be a little mean. The other night he had high school kids who competed with Bird calls. He asked one about his grades and then said something like ''Tell the truth, your lying arent you.'' He did it to the second kid and the kid and after that he looked nervous and stopped smiling till they had to perform. Dave doesnt seem to judge the sensitivity of his guests. These kids werent celebrities, who are used to public criticism. Humiliating someone is not funny to me.

Subject: I was surprised when I heard about JF taking over, but I like him so I thought it was OK. I like Letterman the best. To me he is just so funny! My husband hates him! Anyway, I don't get to watch the late shows much because no matter how hard I try, I just can't stay awake! But I do catch Letterman on Friday nights. I just make sure I stay up. I catch the others at random times when I'm off of work or holidays or whatever. ~A&A's Mom

Subject: For myself, I'm really happy & excited about Jimmy taking over Conan's spot, and actually started a topic about it above somewhere. He didn't always hit the right note on SNL, but who does, and when he was funny I thought he was great. I hadn't heard about Jay & ABC though; but I'm sure not surprised, since the guy is such a total workaholic and I wondered how the heck he'd *turn himself off* next year! He's obviously got a lot more juice in him. I wonder what the format of the ABC show would be?? And if NBC rejected his bid to do that there, and that's why he's going to ABC? Very interesting. As far as Letterman's insensitivity ... I'm not really surprised to hear your story, since I think the guy is so full of himself with all his silly noise-making and repetition that he's hardly aware someone else is there, except for maybe the big stars! I far prefer Jay's solicitous sensitivity, especially when he has elderly people on; it's very endearing. But hey, it takes all kinds I suppose, and that's why we have all the different talk show hosts to choose from I guess! -Spell

Subject: Both Robin & Tom have had very public issues w/alcohol & drug addiction. We know that Mel has also had similar issues. There is a big difference between manic depression (bipolar disorder) & having multiple personalities. A lot of 'creative people' have mental health & addiction issues. Sometimes both. eom
