Topic: The animosity between Jill and Nikki

Additional Comments: I understand why Jill is getting pi**ed with Nikki. I know Nikki is CEO of Jabot, but out of courtesy at least why wouldn't she consult with Jill before making big decisions, such as hiring another executive for Jabot? Did they really need another high-priced employee? Is there really a position for Vikki? Probably when Nikki kicks David to the curb, Vicki can take over for him, but right now who is she going to replace or what job will she have. There's way too much sniping on this soap between women. Vicki/Sabrina, Phyllis/Sharon, Nikki/Jill--who next?

I'm just glad they're finally giving Jess Walton some material. As for the whole CEO thing, it's nuts. From everything we've seen, both Chancellor Industries and Jabot are publicly held companies. That means they have stockholders and a board of directors who must vote on appointing CEOs and co-CEOs. Nikki cannot simply appoint David Chow CEO and Katherine can't appoint Nikki CEO without her board voting on it, even if she is the majority shareholder.

DianeM, IMO there has been way too much sniping and bickering on this show for a long time. Of course soap operas are built on conflict, but these people fight *so much* that it has become almost impossible to even LIKE any of them. If viewers don't even like them, who cares what happens to them? And with the way they are always fighting and bickering with one another, it's hard to buy into even the relationships they supposedly care about! There is very little GENUINE warmth and harmony, and when there is, it's over before you can even blink!

Personally, it's not very enjoyable to just watch people snap at one another and fight for an hour! What used to captivate me, as a viewer, was that I could escape into their world of trials and tribulations for an hour, I LIKED and cared about some of the characters as people I might be friends with IRL, and could identify with some of them. Now I can't identify with any of them, and I doubt I'd associate with them IRL as all they do is bi*ch, bi*ch, bi*ch!

Not to mention how, despite watching them for 10, 20 or 30 years, they all continue to make the same STUPID mistakes and learn NOTHING! Again, I know if everyone were smart, there'd be no stories, but come on! ... at least the older characters should have learned SOMETHING from all their prior mistakes! Nikki and Victor, for example, are still repeating the same stupid mistakes they were making 20 years ago and have learned NOTHING about relationships, those with lovers OR those with their family members! The young set (Lily, Colleen, etc.) should be making all the stupid relationship mistakes and getting at least SOME pearls of wisdom from people like Nikki, Victor, Neil, etc., who have made those mistakes and come away with some GOOD ADVICE about what NOT to do.

There is NO ONE on the show that the young set can look to as an EXAMPLE of valuable knowledge gained from having made bad decisions. WE ALL have SOMEONE that we look up to for that ... but there is NO ONE on this soap that anyone can look up to. John Abbott was the last, and LML killed the character so she could make him "more interesting" as a ghost! IMO, that was one of the dumbest things she did as head-writer, and also the most damaging to the show.

IRL, we make mistakes too, but generally, with even a little intelligence, we take at least *a little* wisdom into the future from each experience. These people are like crash dummies that drive full speed into one wall after another!

  • I am totally with you on this April. Sometimes I just want the warm feeling from seeing two good friends just hanging out, talking, sharing time together.

I think the issue stems from just the general dislike these women have had for each other for years.  Nikki has never thought highly of Jill and is generally rude when in the same room.  Jill's bitter because she sees Nikki as the daughter Katherine wanted and Jill was just the daughter she now has to own up to.

On the business side, Jill is now being watched over by Katherine again at CI.  And nobody has made any mention of another branch of CI floundering like Jabot has after Katherine bought it.  It's only fair that Jill works harder to rebuild her baby and make it a profitable part of CI.  We all know that Jill would rather run Jabot, but Katherine felt it was her job to give the CI CEO job to Jill.

Nikki has NO expirence running a major company.  She only bought her way in with 35million when the first chance presented itself.  She acts high and mighty without an ounce of credibility and has done nothing other than change things around because it gives her a chance to use her position.  That's NOT smart business, that's a power trip.  Jill is just asking to be consulted first, she's not totally shooting down every idea.  I don't see Nikki doing any of her own research, she's allowing people who have no cosmetics knowledge do the work which is poor leadership.  Nikki seems to think it's all about saving a buck, but if she's not sure where that buck is really going nor how the products turn out are going to be from changing supplies, then she's a shody CEO who deserves being watched over.

I love this rivalry, I liked it when Jill mentioned Nikki hiring Victoria, and then Nikki shot back with the hiring of Cane.  In my opinion it makes more sense to get Victoria than it did to get Cane.  However, Nikki is a fool for keeping a high stakes gambler around as her co-CEO, Brad will most likely use this against her to take over the company, but Victoria could also take over, Nikki could have been written well in this position, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

  • I loved that little zinger about Cane that Nikki shot back at Jill too joey. :) ShirleyB

I think Jill is ridiculous.  She has an entire conglomerate to run in Chancellor Industries, yet she's always poking around Jabot.  If she wants to be SO involved in Jabot, she should have just told Katherine she would prefer to stay there and find someone else to run Chancellor.  It's clear that Jill really wants to be at Jabot and she hates that Nikki is running it.

  • I'm reading this situation a little differently. If you compare it to a Manager who is overseeing a lot of different projects, a good manager will pay more attention to those that are being managed by his weaker staff members. Jill has inherited a conglomerate, but we've never heard anything about the CEOs of the other Chancellor Industry businesses and IMVHO it's therefore safe to assume that they are being capably ran by their CEOs. Therefore she should be able to continue to monitor them with a minimum of time. Nikki is however new to the role of CEO of Jabot, and is obviously bent on making some major changes without consultating with Jill first. And Jill has made it clear that she want/expects to be consulted. IMVHO Jill would be remiss not to be checking up more consistently on NIkki. Nikki is NOT an experienced CEO, and IMVHO is being too easily swayed by her 'boy-friend' into making bad business decisions. Whatever Jill's reasons for keeping a keen eye on Nikki, I think it's warranted. She's in waaay beyond her depth right now. Hopefully Victoria and/or Brad can save her from the consequences of her own bad actions in the future. DChow sure won't. eom
  • faysie, you have a good point, however, I still think it just annoys Jill that Kay chose Nikki to run Jabot. Even if Nikki makes a good decision, Jill is not going to acknowledge it. csd
  • I agree with csd. Jill should be at Chancellor monitoring Jabot reports and bottom line, NOT the day-to-day operations. If I were Nikki, I would have a meeting with Katherine, the one who hired me, and have her more clearly define what my duties are w/r/t Jill. eom VeeJay
  • Katherine HAD to know that there would be problems with this arrangement so why did she set it up with no CLEAR drawn out seperation of duties and authority. She just tells everyone to get along and work together. She reminds me of Victor in this way. He does the same thing at Newman.
  • Maybe because she thought Jill could be more professional since she hates when Katherine questions what she's doing and why she's doing it. eom VeeJay

All these companies have alot of big salaries to support and all these women have no real experience to be in the roles they are and yet there they are. If Jill is going to oversee Chancellor industries and all it's CEOs as she described to Jeffy a few days ago  then she does not have time to breath down Nicki's back and to watch over Lilly's career. She yells about Chow not having experince with a cosmetic company...well do all the other Chancellor companies sale cosmetics or do we have other CEO's out there saying Jill doesn't know jack crap about software or whatever it is they specialize in. I think it may be time for me to take a break because I am really tired of how stuoid I am suppose to be to buy into these stories.

What bugs me about Nikki is that she is entirely too susceptible and gullible.  There was something said lately about one of ChowMan's recommendations that she'd agreed to (later nixed by Jill)... I think it was the change to a new essential oils supplier?  We learned that DaveC arranged it because they would pay him a big kick-back fee!!  And of course our unsuspecting Nikki didn't have a clue. She NEVER has a clue IMVHO.  I don't blame Jill in the least for wanting to keep an eye on what's she doing...she needs to for the future safety and security of Jabot. Nikki is apt to sign any ridiculous proposal that ChowMan puts in front of her. All he apparently has to do is flatter her a little, arrange a massage for her, etc., and she forgets all reservations and falls victim to his (undeserved) charm. I wish she'd grow a brain. She makes all business-women look ridiculous.

  • ITA!
  • faysie, I agree 110%. First, there's NO WAY someone with Nikki's experience (NONE!) would be in a position of that much power in a company like Jabot, OR ANY COMPANY. The ONLY business experience she has is that of being *married to* a tycoon. Maybe she put that in the ''Education'' section of her resume, but the ''Work Experience'' and ''Employment'' sections are complete blanks. Her gullibility would cancel anything positive she may have to contribute. Too bad this soap has become THIS ridiculous and unbelievable ..... April
