demand a thank you at least.  lol!  Contrary to what some folks believe it was Jack Smith NOT Lynn Latham that put Nick and Phyllis together.  During the search for Daniel, Jack Smith said he saw chemistry between JM and MS. At the same time according to Smith, the Cassie's death storyline was winding down, SHICK needed another big shot because the couple had gotten so stale.  Nick would have a fling with Phyllis and Shick would go through the usual  cheat then breakup, makeup drama that they had done so many times in the past.  According to Josh Morrow everyone at Y&R was totally blown away by what happened with PHICK.

As the PHICK family gets set to celebrate the Thanksgiving/Xmas holidays for the 4th year, I wonder how Jack Smith feels about his creation.

The key to soaps though is that you can't keep the hot "front and center couples" together happily and permanently (Victor/Nikki, Josh/Reva, Gary/Valene, the list goes on and on).  You always have to have some conflict/other character to come between them and keep them apart for years on end, so the audience keeps hoping/rooting for a reunion.

I actually think breaking Nick and Sharon up was a good idea, but I guess not everyone shares that opinion.  I actually gave up rooting for these two to get back together after the last yo-yo thing with Nick and Sharon and Phyllis.

  • I disagree that 'keeping them apart' keeps them interesting. I understand the idea that there has to be some conflict or drama, but separating them and keeping them apart does NOT always result in interestng drama that keeps viewers interested. Victor and Nikki, for example have been split up and reunited more times than one can count, and viewers no longer find that repetitive process interesting. There are SOME couples that viewers WANT to see together, even with conflicts and drama. It's NOT a given that the only way we (viewers) find them interesting enough to root for them is by splitting them up. I would much rather have watched Nick and Sharon finally acknowledge their repetitive pattern of turning to others outside their marriage in times of trouble and DEAL with it, get help, etc. I was a fan of Nick/Sharon and have NOT enjoyed seeing them split up. I think that ruined both characters ..... April

Around the time Cassie died in May 2005, Jack Smith also said that he wasn't going to break Sharon and Nick up with yet one more infidelity storyline, implying he wanted to do something different and show the couple working through and facing the challenges of Cassie's death together.  Then, Latham was brought in by Bloom in her ''Executive Consulting'' capacity during the Fall of 2005.   When did Nick and Phyllis first play video games?   Connect.the.dots.

  • Yep. And later on, we also heard from Sally Sussman Morina who indicated that ...

How proud is he? Well, he changed his last name to Smith so he would be anonymous and couldn't be traced. That says about everything.
