Topic: How Do You Think The Soap Is Going Without Victor?

Additional Comments:
I know it may be too soon to tell, but so far I haven't missed him at all. Maybe that's because I don't like him and hoped when he was ranting about his pay cut that he'd exit the soap permanently! (I do want Nikki to return though.)
Anyway, really, even if I did like the old goat I'd have to say it's a breath of fresh air not having him overpower every storyline, control half the characters, and listen to his vindictive snarling. To me it's like a big ugly cloud has moved away from the sun and GC is basking in it. All the actors/characters seem to be doing great, the SL's are getting better, no one is monopolizing the show, everyone is equal and shining in their own right.
I only hope that this Tucker guy gives the mustache a run for his money and is just as powerful, only with maybe a touch of compassion, fairness and forgiveness - none of which Victor has. JMHO

Message: I don't miss the old man a bit. It is good that other actors on the payroll are getting some airtime. And I get a certain feeling that there are those on screen and off screen on the set of Y&R that don't miss him either.

Message: The best part of Victor being gone is that the writers seem to have remembered that there are other characters on the show. Characters they don't seem to have time for, or are very interested in using, when Victor is around. I like seeing more of Katherine, Jill, Neil and Paul.

Message: Y&R thrived without EB, for yrs, before the character of Victor was introduced. It could be successful without him. It is also VERY unhealthy for ANY soap to overly rely on one character or one storyline--that is what has gotten soaps off on the wrong track for many yrs. There is less & less of a sense of community & bonds springing from family & community, as well as multi-generational stories.
There was also a time, after Victor was introduced, that he wasn't the center of the GC world.

Message: It was so nice of Victor to take a break and run out and get some Viagra. I don't miss him at all. The soap is better, I think. Victor has a tendancy to strangle and stagnate any creativity on Y&R.

I haven't missed Victor at all. When he returns I think we will be back to the same old stuff (his feud with Jack, another marriage to Nikki, their divorce, etc.).

Message: I don't miss Victor or Nikki at this point. And, I'm rather hoping that when they do return they are backburnered, and their SLs aren't always 'front and centre'.

In a word, delightful. Actually, I haven't even thought about him, but the air has seemed fresher, lighter and freer. A bonus is the absence of mumbling (except for Cane, who I avoid watching anyway). When Tucker comes on the show, I hope he ultimately kills Grambo, kicks the old goat's ass out of town or into a life sentence in prison, and off the show permanently.

Message: Why do people think that Tucker is really coming on this show? Has that
character been casted? As for Victor I am enjoying the show a lot
more without mustached Victor and breathy-voiced Nicki!!

Message: Just awful...I cry myself to sleep and sigh all day about it! I have to go to You Tube to get my fix of him every waking hour! [Just kidding............. !!]
Actually I love it without him. Of course we'll have to see his portrait every time when they show scenes from his office.

Message: I feel almost like a traitor admitting it - but it's been kind of nice without the moustache - and Victoria too! It seems to have given other players who get neglected a bit more air time.

Message: I have noticed Nikki's absence and missed her. But it has been Victor who? Y&R was boring before Victor left and IMO it is still boring. But overall the show is better without the old geezer's ponderous morose sucking up all the air presence.

here comes another sports analogy. hey! ... it's what i know!
victor is like a once great athlete who has played well past his prime. he used to depend on athleticism, quickness and instinct to excel at his craft. but now his physical ability has decreased and he needs to play a more cerebral style if he wants to stay in the game. only, like many of those said athletes, they either don't realize it or can't admit that they've gotten old and need to adjust or retire.
victor still wants to be that swashbuckling hero that pounds every man into the ground and sweeps all the women off their feet. but it's not working anymore and he seems to be the only person who can't see it. the humble and wise, however still powerful grandfather victor would be a much more welcome persona IMO. he's not believable as the dominant male anymore. and the little girl's heart he's sporting did nothing to help his case. any real man who fought him would be guilty of taking candy from a baby, at least for a very long time until he fully heals. he needs to retire to a Godfather-like character...pulling the strings behind the scenes rather than playing the leading man.
oh, and no. even as a former great fan of his, i have to say that it's a nice break from his screen dominance.

Message: I don't miss TGVN one bit. In fact, GC is a much more pleasant place without his overbearing and gloomy presence. WHY did EB have to cave? WHY did TPTB allow him to? I honestly dread him returning to the show. And BTW, I don't miss Nikki either!

Message: I don't miss him at all, or Nikki the eternal doormat either for that matter. But I'm glad that he'll be around to find out what his dear sonny boy Adam has been up to all these months. I can't wait for those scenes, though they might happen in late 2011 at this rate.

Message: don't miss him one bit. maybe he was on so much before because brass was paying him more in preportion to the other actors so they were trying to get their $$$ worth. now that he's been cut maybe he won't be on as much or have his damn thumb in everything

Message: I haven't missed Victor one bit since he rolled up his blonde doormat fiance and headed out of town.
Good riddance. They are both not needed anymore.

I loved your comment about GC being under a big ugly cloud that has moved away from the sun and GC is basking in it. I do not like TGVN and as someone else said, he is no longer leading man material and hasn't been for a long time now.
I am loving the show now with all the actors having a fair share in this soap. Victor's presence in almost all of the scenes he's in is so negative, cold, controlling, vindictive and revengeful. He's not a likeable character. He's not even someone I "love to hate." He's just hateful and IMO doesn't add anything to this soap IMO. Just that dark cloud. Sorry to those of you who like him but I regret that Mr. Braedon is returning.

I don't miss him at all. In fact the only time, I've thought about The Old Goat was yesterday while watching ATWT, and Dusty Donovan started shoveling that casserole in his mouth like there was no tomorrow, then proceeded to swell-up and start mumbling because he's allergic to fennel ..lol!

Message: Druna, ITA with you about how, when he *is* around, he is WAAAAY too over-played. The character is what he is - an egotistical, hypocritical, over-controlling and over-bearing jerk. But that *is* Victor. I know he has a certain percentage of fans (I'm not one of them), and I really don't mind him being there; however, the time came a LONG time ago to start beefing up the roles of other characters so that such a high percentage of the show's stories DO NOT have to center around HIM! Yes, he's the only surviving Y&R patriarch, but it's TIME for him to step back SOME and let some of the younger actors/characters be featured. WHY TPTB haven't begun this process long before now, I don't know! Seems pretty basic, IMO. He's NOT leading man material anymore and hasn't been for quite some time.
Like you, I like Nikki. But she too, IMO, is the matriarch now. I DO believe they absolutely still deserve some well-written, compelling stories - but the WHOLE SHOW shouldn't revolve around them anymore, at least not to the point where they are pivotal characters in EVERY, or nearly every story.
And it wouldn't hurt to see them grow SOME BRAINS and show that they've actually *learned* from some of their experiences over the last 3+ decades! Would it be TOO much to ask for them to start humbling themselves and offering a LITTLE really GOOD advice for a change?
