Additional Comments: One pilot wasn't able to fuel up in flight. He then landed at the Baghdad airport and blew out a tire. His superiors will decide whether he will continue as a pilot.

Each fighter jet is worth 60 million dollars and it costs one million dollars to train each pilot.

One female pilot said it would be fun to drop a bomb. That same pilot said that fueling up while flying is like putting a key in the trunk of the car that is in front of you while driving down the freeway.

They've been in Iraq for two months, yet so far the fighter jets from the carrier haven't dropped any bombs.

About half of the people on the ship who were interviewed about their attitude toward the war, questioned why the U.S. was in Iraq. One three year pilot questioned whether carriers were the right way to fight a war. One person questioned the connection betweeen 9/11 and Iraq. One person said the U.S. is in Iraq because of oil.

The people from the ship go on shore leave in Bahrain, which is liberal/modern.

One sailor likes sightseeing, and wants to see the world. He said he sightsees whenever he's on liberty. While the sailor was on a sightseeing tour of Bahrain, a religious leader was shown saying we are all children of Adam. therefore we are all brothers and sisters, no matter what our color. After the sailor got back to the hotel, the sailor started chanting like the religious leader and kind of laughing.

The sailors were told they could only go to malls and on sightseeing tours while in Bahrain. Those on shore leave in Bahrain mostly stayed at the hotel, ate good meals, slept and hung around the pool.

  • What I see here is Elie giving a recap of a program she watched. She is not making any judgements. You, on the other hand, are extremely inappropriate in calling her names. rushlan
  • Wow SherylM, that was harsh. Elie is simply telling us about a PBS show she has been following. If you are uninterested, move along to another post or add something worthwhile. This is a discussion board and she is entitled. Many people post on a variety of subjects: their kids, their pets, their homes, their jobs, the aquaintance they love to hate etc. People feel secure enough to let down their hair and bare their souls. No one deserves to be treated so disrespectfully. I do notice something about Elie's posts. Regardless of how rude some can be towards her comments, she never answers back in anger. She allows you to flame her with class. That, I respect.
  • Thank you Rushlan and Denise. You are absolutely correct - Pronoun
  • Thank you very much, Rushlan, Denise and Pronoun. ~eom
  • Not a problem Pronoun. I personally get offended by all the bashing Elie gets thrown at her. Elie, you seem to be a person full of compassion and it would be nice if you had an outlet for that compassion; but at least you do make phone calls and write letters or emails and try to get the correct people aware of a problem you see. That is a whole lot more than the vast majority of people do. We certainly have the right to disagree with what you write, but to attack you personally with name calling is just not acceptable. I have not had the chance to watch the program you are describing here even though I had wanted to see it, and I for one am interested in how you interpret what you see. rushlan
  • My problem with Elie is she doesn't state her opinion. She just lists a bunch of what she considers facts. There is no 'and here is how I feel about this' to her posts. I feel like they are written by a robot. And I don't feel I have bashed her. Mostly I feel sorry for her and have tried to help. She ignores that help completely therefore I choose to no longer respond to her directly. Hope that clarifies my position. eom CG
  • She doesn't give her opinion directly but I think her tone and her political themes speak volumes ---- in an oblique way. Maybe that's just her style. Even though most of the time I don't agree with the position she seems to take, I don't see the reason for the resentment she seems to be getting...eom...Mitch
