Topic: Did You Get Many Trick Or Treaters?

Additional Comments: This was probably the slowest year I've ever had. Granted, I live on a dark, off the beaten path street, but we usually get about 20-30 trick or treaters. This year I was lucky to have seen 12. They were all little, little kids. Saw some cute costumes. I'm still glad I put up my lights, lighted skeleton head & lit candles on the brick planter. It looked pretty cool.

My 3 granddaughters were our only trick or treaters.  I miss seeing the kids but we've never had any here.  I don't know why unless it's because our house is on a hill plus it's a busy street but I miss them.

We got around 250 trick or treaters in only an hour and 15 minutes -- we were handing out candy non-stop.  Our little 2-block street is Halloween Central -- everyone brings their kids there.  Three different times, there was a line 40-people deep down our driveway to get to the front door.  The street was jammed with cars, it was nuts!  We blew through about 14 lbs. of candy and had to shut down operations.

Mr. Ingy and I were handing out the candy dressed as Gomez and Morticia Addams (we went out after T&T).  At one point, someone in the line of people started singing the Addams Family theme song -- next thing you know all the people in the line and people walking down the street were all singing it together.  So fun!

  • Sounds like my Mom's neighborhood. She doesn't get a chance to sit down. It's a steady stream of kids for at least 2 hours...................Liz

I was SHOCKED by how few trick-or-treaters I had this year. Especially because it was nice and mild out (sometimes in Canada, kids have to wear snowsuits under their costumes), as well as a weekend. When I first bought my house, I'd get over 100 kids for Halloween. It's been decreasing over the years, but last year I got about 50. This year, I got ten. TEN kids! And half of them weren't even in costumes, just dressed normally with bags for candy. Gah - maybe next year I won't even bother.

Anyone want 50 bags of chips or some mini chocolate bars?

  • I remember trick or treating as a kid wearing snow boots & down coats over our costumes as we waded through a foot or more of snow! This year it was positively warm out!...................Liz

Same here, last year we had about 35 kids this year about 10. Now we are forced to eat all that candy ourselves!

  • Fortunately, I didn't buy much. I'm on a diet detox so Cameron has eaten all the leftovers. Not a bad setup. He doesn't have to trick or treat & still gets a bowl of candy!..................Liz

I live on a dead end road and there were only about 2 of us in previous years with our porch lights on. A few years ago, I had a handful of kids. The next year I had 2 kids. The next year I said "forget it". Our house is back the road a ways and you can't see our porch light from the road and I think kids don't believe its worth the effort to just hit 2 houses back here. Kept the light off and stayed in another part of the house. I love giving out candy but there's no one interested enough around here.

  • I always lived in the country until I bought this house 8 years ago. I love handing out candy but this was a disappointing year................Liz

I didn't even buy any candy or turn on the lights this year.  The last several years the few trick or treaters I'd had were all bigger than me and I refuse to give candy to an 18 year old.  Last year I think I had one family that had 2 small kids and the mother also had a bag!  I didn't offer her any candy and she said it was for her baby in the car.  I asked how old the baby was and she said 3 months old!!  Just like that 3 month old could have candy, lol.  It was just ridiculous.

  • When we were kids, none of us would be caught DEAD trick or treating after the 6th grade! All the kids I got this year were very young...................Liz

I shut the lights because I ended up with a dog walk around 6:15. Big mistake! The dog got spooked by the costumes and the setup on the lawn across the street and the kids were already decked out. It was still light out when they started and the walk didn't last long. He had enough trouble walking by headstones on peoples' lawns during daylight but add in kids, lights and sound effects, not to mention really strong winds and he was not in a good place.

I would guess 50 to 60.  I went to the grocery store and although the sun was still out, our court was filled with mostly little kids.  I knew that there would be a pause and then the rest of the T or T would  wait till after dinner hour.  One neighbor told the early kids to come back when it was dark because he wasn't ready.

Personally I think they should at least wait till it just gets a little dark.

We didn't get any trick or treaters at all. Here in Canada, I think a lot of parents are keeping their kids home because of this Swine flu business.

  • That probably had something to do with it here too. Lots of illness. As I mentioned below, the downtown merchants all pass out candy & it starts at 4pm. I think trick or treating should be done after dark but I think parents are far more wary these days..................Liz

The number of trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood has really diminished the past couple of years.  Last night we had maybe 15 kids.  It was a very windy night so that may have kept some people away.  Leo and his posse were in another neighborhood and said hardly anyone else was out.  Now, what to do with the PILES of candy we have left over.

  • I went to the grocery store at about 4:30 & there were hundreds of kids doing the downtown thing. I think it's kind of sad that trick or treating has turned into that...............Liz
