They say it is a miracle that she is alive and not paralyzed. She was visiting her son and his family in Georgia. They have two identical doors that are side by side. One opens to a room and the other to the basement. She opened the door that she thought went into a room; but it was the door to the basement. She fell down the whole flight of stairs and broke C1 and C2 and her wrist.
She is a very religious person and Irish; so all I can say is that her guardian angel and her Irish luck must have been with her. She also won a battle with breast cancer about 10 years ago. Speaking of an angel, she has to wear one of those halos for three months.
I wish so bad that she lived here, because both sides of the family live here in St. Louis; and she is in Michigan. She had to fly home wearing that halo. That couldn't have been comfortable. Hopefully they gave her a first class seat. She also had a 2 hour car drive to her home from the airport. My brother was with her.

She has certainly been through enough of late. My very best wishes for her to heal quickly. Hopefully things will only get better from here on.
I'm sorry for your sister in law.. good Lord.. falling down stairs! I've had my share of freaky falling down stairs..bad tumbles, slipped on my front door walk way while WALKING.. had no clue that my two feet were no longer on the pavement..fell on the rightside of my hip. I never felt it coming. The walkway was wet from rain.
I wish I could think of the perfect Irish proverb here..I've got a blank slate mentally. It's obvious that your sister in law has more to do in this lifetime. No one leaves this world before their time..no one. She has her Irish Angels surrounding her..believe me. May St. Patrick watch over her and bless her with his protective shield.
Wow, there is really nothing comforting I can say about the deaths. Thats just plain rough. Eventually she will be about to talk about the good or fun she had with these people and her dog.
There is a bright side to your story. The fact she is not paralyzed can be looked at as good luck, VERY VERY GOOD LUCK. Perhaps she's turned the corner and this ugly streak is over. I sure wish her well. Has she ever shown an interest in joining us?

I am half Irish...and it doesn't seem the Luck-o -the -Irish has rubbed off on me either.
