I always took some kind of class. Its a lot harder here in a tourist type place but I have already taken Ice Skating here. Since I was 23 I've taken Calligraphy, Photography, Dressing for you own body, Adult Tap and Ballet, Oil painting, Tennis, Horseback Riding English and Stained Glass. Till I broke the foot, Jazzercize. I knew nothing of these things before the first class and it was fun because it was all adults. Well, there was one thing that was not all that fun and embarassing. I took a Spanish class for people who needed to learn fast for a trip maybe. The very first class he made us talk to ''our neighbor'' across the aisle in Spanish. I'm sure we mangled the language. I do remember the most important phrase anyway, ¿Dónde está el baño? Where is the bathroom? LOL
You may have totally different interests and it depends on your area. I have always found the Recreation Dept or YMCA a good source or they could lead you to one.

Katie, your summer sounds a lot like mine! I like change and variety too, so I hear what you're saying. Since I play the piano and since our chorus is on hiatus during the summer, I like to set aside some piano pieces to learn or brush up on during the summer months. You might also check your local paper for summer events. Our area has a lot of free outdoor concerts, family activities at local farms, museums, and libraries. Maybe a college near you is offering a summer evening course, or you could get a group of friends together for a summer book club. At the beach! Hope you find something up your alley.

i love the idea of the book club! i love to read, and think it would make great conversation with a little wine on the side! thanks!
Katie, I have the perfect book for you to start on! It's called Angry Housewives Eating Bonbons by Lorna Landvik, about a group of neighborhood women who start a book club and end up supporting one another for many years through all sorts of family crises. It's a fun read, a nice blend of funny and serious. The cover of the copy I read showed several women on floats in a pool, with books and tropical drinks in front of them! (Just to give you a little inspiration.) - Peridot
PERFECT! Why don't you come to Va. Beach and join us (and soon as I put 'us' together!) LOL
Too bad we don't live closer, huh? I'll settle for your opinion on the book if you decide to read it. : ) - Peridot

I can think of so many things. Sailing lessons, kayaking, art classes, cooking classes. Are you muscially inclined? Pick an instrument and take lessons. Or volunteer for some kind of program in your area that meets at night or weekends. There must be local festivals in your area; contact the event organizer and volunteer to help set up, tear down, etc. I am never at a loss for things to do.
