I didn't call you a name...you're too chicken to give one so you don't deserve a response. I did read your moratorium high an mighty post. I will say what I want and use what expressions I want....just like everyone else here. And there's nothing wrong with that. Personally I do prefer to type everything out but these anacronyms are just faster to use in these days of texting. This for sure is my last post to someone who is so sure of him/herself that they can't post a name. I am off to watch the closing ceremonies./Betty

I am proud of the Canadian women's hockey team and they deserved all the celebrating and more. The one under-age player is indeed legally able to consume in her home province, so give her a break. If it had been the men doing this, I think it would have hardly caused a ripple. And if it had been the US team? I think it would have been equally un-newsworthy. A bunch of adults were celebrating a sweet victory - get over it.
And as for men's hockey - how is "beating the cr@p" out of the other team showing "class"? You obviously have no clue what class is all about.

I think your comments are a disgrace. Many were underage?? Really?? Only one and she is of legal age in her home province and training province. Also, it is NOT illegal to consume alcohol when you're underage. Who hasn't had a drink when they were underage? Please. Most of Europeans have wine with their meals. I hear that Bode Miller likes to drink before he skis....same for the former great Alberto Tomba. But since they're men it's ok.
I take EXTREME offence to you saying that Canadians have NO class and we need to be shown some by some professional millionaires? You mean like Patrick Kane who was arrested for beating on a cab driver? Or your bobsleigh rider who was arrested for beating his wife/girlfriend? Please. You want to talk about no class? What about the US women putting a Canadian flag on their dressing room floor and stomping all over it?? We still beat them. Two times....sorry they couldn't even get to the final last Olympics.
They won the gold medal for the 3rd time in a row....shutting out the US team. That is the second time the US was beaten by Canada for the gold. They didn't even make the final the last Olympics. Sweden beat them in a shutout.
Let them celebrate. No one was in the arena other than a few members of the press and the cleaning crew. No one cares but for a few sore losers from what I hear. The IOC doesn't care, nor does anyone who knows anything about hockey. Those girls have been training hard for years and they won the gold medal. Let them have their beer....on an empty rink.
Wow...we care what a bunch of loser ESPN commentators say. Please GMAFB. We see constant celebrations where men spray champagne all over the place...and some of them are underage too. Who the eff cares?
I guess it would be ok if they were in bikinis like a certain skier posing in one on the mountain. Or bent over on the cover of SI? Real class there.
Whatever happens in tomorrow's game I am proud of our Canadian athletes. After all we have the MOST gold medals of any country. And we don't value sport over all else.
I seriously think that you should reconsider your classless last statement. Canada has been nothing but a great neighbour to the US and I am sure that you do not speak for most Americans because I have not heard much from them other than the sore losers.

Ditto Ditto to everything you said. I usually only lurk but her comments really infuriated me. So nasty. I think she is the one who is the disgrace. I wonder what espn will have to say about Apollo Ohno and his comments about the Canadian ref and his disqualification. Now that was a class act.
ITA w/ everythign you said, Betty...........DebS
Betty, you GO girl! ITA with your reply & I'm American!.....................Liz
(Sam) I'm just amazed that the clowns on ESPN covered something hockey related! Most of my hockey loving American fan friends tell me that ESPN sucks but boy, when something gossip worthy happens they're right on it!
Thanks everyone. I love Americans so I hope that no one thinks I don't I was just drawing conclusions to some of the things said by those no-nothing ESPN (no hockey coverage) commentators. /Betty

I am a Canadian and I am proud of the Women's Hockey team. Perhaps they should have celebrated in a less public place but all of the the athletes have been shown celebrating with beer and liquor all week in other venues. Are you just upset because they beat the US and won a gold medal. Sounds like sour grapes to me. I think your comment about beating the crap out of the Canadian Men's Hockey team shows how classless you are. How about Apollo Ono - now he is a class act blaming the ref for his disqualification. C'mon Canadians - stick up for your Canadian Women's Hockey team.

(Sam) On one of the boards I'm on I was surprised to see how many Americans hate Ohno. It seems he has a rep for cheating so they were happy to see him DQ'd. I didn't have a problem with him until this week.

I didn't watch the game but I did hear about the celebration. There was only one underager there and if the Olympics had been held in Quebec, where she lives, she would not have been underage. As for the cigars and being in the arena, on ice, I know of a few NHL teams that have had similar celebrations. Come to think of it, if this had been a male team nothing would have been said. Son number 2 tells me that it was an American reporter who ratted them out. Sour grapes!

Blame an American if you want, but, please click inside......KY
I don't know who reporte d the story but I believe in the picture you posted, they are all of age. What's wrong with a adult enjoying champagne or beer? They can serve it in the stands, so why not!! I don't care who reported it, because it really is a non story and most people really don't care./Betty
KY, truly, what is so wrong with it? How is it any different than a proffessional football team celebrating on the field afterwards, or an NHL team doing something similar? Because they are women? I know for a fact that a few years back I read that a professional football team went out to their field after the fans left, reporters etc toting lawn chairs and having a beer under the touchdown thingy. I remember hubby said something like they were savouring the moment.I read it but I am sure it was likely on tv too.
(me...fanning the flames off my laptop)....When in the heck did I say there was anything wrong with it? I DEFENDED them FGS, and I feel like I'm being racked over the coals here. I was only showing you that it wasn't just an American reporting this. I'm through with this now for good!!! Heaven help me if I ever try to defend anyone again!!....KY.
I apologize then KY. But I took your '' blame an american if you want. Please look inside'' comment differently than what you may have meant it to be. If so, I apologize.
And yes, that is a canuck pic. The one in our morning paper was an american news carrier... APS .I should not have mentioned the reporter in the first place but just spoke to the OP about the ladies celebrating. Denise
I wasn't attacking you either. I was just saying that I don't care who took the pics at all as it is a non issue. Calm down my friend, no one is attacking you like you aren't attacking us. It's ok...we're all friends. Some us here are just defending our women hockey players and maybe get a little fired up. Again, it doesn't matter at all who took the pictures. It's just because of a few sore losers trying to make an issue when there isn't one. Don't worry about it. /Betty

(Sam) Like I said further up, a boy DID walk the streets chugging beer from a pitcher and we thought it was great. Also, a cross country skier from Europe made a comment about losing his race, saying he guessed he watched too much porn over the past week and that was the reason he lost. I thought it was hilarious, as did others. But boy oh boy, when women do something along the same vein they're chastised.

I'm Canadian. And I was surprised. I would have hoped they'd have more sense than to have such a public celebration and have somebody underaged drinking. (I only heard about 1 underaged young woman being involved). IMO they should have had their celebration in their dressing room away from any possibility of prying eyes. I think the Olympic spirit is so high in Canada, and they were so elated at their gold medal win that they didn't think of the possible consequences. But I'm still mighty proud of them!

While I don't condone underage drinking, and smoking cigars is not very lady-like, I say leave them alone and let them celebrate! They worked hard for their victory.
I heard the IOC was not too happy with them. True, they should have done their celebrating in the dressing room, off the ice, but I don't think a big deal should be made of it.

Actually the IOC doesn't care. It is a non issue to them. It would be hard for an organization with mostly Europeans to get upset at drinking!! /Betty
I didn't just ''make that up'', but I should have been more specific. The IOC was originally upset and did an inquiry. Gilbert Felli, IOC executive director of the Olympic Games, surprisingly started the outrage ball rolling when informed of the celebration Thursday night. Said Felli: Gilbert Felli, IOC executive director of the Olympic Games, surprisingly started the outrage ball rolling when informed of the celebration Thursday night. Said Felli: ''If that's the case, that is not good. It is not what we want to see'' Apparently they decided it didn't need further investigation...KY
I am just stating what I heard here on the news. The IOC had a meeting and it wasn't even brought up so it really is a non-issue to most people. Heaven forbid some women who only get attention every 4 years celebrate a gold medal win over their toughest competition. They apologized and that's the end of the story. All that said I am sure that if it was men no one would say a thing...just like when we see all the drinking and celebrating in professional sports. Some of them are underage too./Betty
