Topic: What are you watching on tv these days?

Additional Comments:

It is funny, I don't have any shows on the major networks right now.   I watch two on ABCFamily - In Plain Sight (u.s. marshalls and witness protection program), and Middleman (men in black-ish take off).  I watch ''Burn Notice'' on USA(I think?) and Dr Who on SciFi.  That is it for right now, until Boston Legal or one of my reality shows comes back on (oops I forgot Project Runway - but I am not really into it this time around,  I like the mousey girl).

Has anyone seen ''Middleman'' ?  It is hysterical.

Being an ex-dancer my favorite show is "So You Think You Can Dance".  The quality of the dancing is unbelievable, especially this year's talent.  The judges really had their work cut out for them...every dancer that made it to the show was incredible...and even more incredible was the fact that the guy who won had very little formal dance training.  He was mainly a hip-hop dancer.  Anyone who has studied dance knows how difficult the choreography they had to perform was.  Kudos to all of them from a lover of dance.

Toni Basil was a guest judge...I danced with her in high school [we both attended Las Vegas High].  She was the best friend of my BF's sister.  This was back in the latter 1950's.  She looks great and she's still dancing and choreographing.  You go Toni!

It seems like everything is repeats so we are watching America's Got Talent (I am so glad that Donald Brazell got back in) and America's Greatest Dog, lol. It's dumb but I like dogs and I always get a laugh at something on the show. I picked Galaxy from the moment I saw him because we used to have a dog that looked very similar and he was the smartest dog I ever knew.

I also watch Project Runway, but am also not into it this season.   I am not really thrilled with anyone and I can't stand that guy who keeps making Tim say dumb things, like holla at your boy!  LOL.   And I watch Shear Genius.  I watched So You Think You Can Dance for the first time this past summer and really enjoyed it.    And, yes   I watch Big Brother.  This season is the first enjoyable one in years.

I don't watch much in the way of Sitcoms, but I am looking forward - very forward - to The Office and Dirty Sexy Money.   I re-watched over the course of the summer the entire run of Six Feet Under because I did not have Big Love to watch this summer.    I love HBO miniseries and DVR'd much of the one on the Iraq war that ran this summer, but have yet to see it.  My DVR runneth over at this point I have so much on it.

AND - I watch an Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Theater hour show every morning with coffee, all DVR'd.  I just can't take news in the morning, though I used to be a news junkie.

Yes, I am a couch potato, lol.   I do try to multitask though and do some needlepoint while I watch television in the evening.

Oh, and a Netflix movie every weekend with my husband.  We loved Nim's Island, our most recent rental.

  • I think I've watched the entire run of SFU like 20 times - and individual episodes even more than that. It is, without question, the best show ever!.........DebS
  • Did I do a boo boo here - my type suddenly changed. I started using Safari as my browser. Maybe that is it? // Deb S - I wish I could buy it, but it is so expensive, but thanks to Netflix, I could watch it all over, uncut and unedited as it seemed to be on A&E. I love Big Love, but it did not come close to SFU! ElaineJ/eom

Other than watching the news every morning and a recording of Y&R every couple days, right now I have only seen episodes of Psych.  That show is so silly I laugh the whole way through it.

For us it's Y&R and B&B for light entertainment, we often breeze through them in the late evening when we're too pooped to accomplish anything but not quite sleepy yet.  Otherwise it's mostly just news and information.  I'll watch some HGTV here and there, I like the landscaping shows on weekend mornings.  We never watch sitcoms, dramas, American Idol/Dancing with Stars, or so-called reality shows.  We just have no interest in that stuff.

This summer it's mostly been Red Sox games and The Discovery Channel.  Leo really loves their annual "Shark Week."  If I have time I occasionally like to catch an old movie on TCM.  Late at night hubby like to watch the DIY network.

At this moment there are 2 TVs going, so I will just name what I love recently.  Mad Men.

If you have AMC and are old enough to remember the 60's Mad Men is worth watching. Sunday night at 10 here. They really captured the time.  Clothing, decor, lots of smoking.  Exceptionally well written, acted  and vintage researched.  http://www.amctv.com/originals/madmen/about/

Curious George, Zaboomafoo, Cyberchase.......Just kidding. It seems when the tv is on the kids are wanting their shows. Which I record for them. Unfortunately, I think this is going to be the decade that I don't have time to have the dedication that I have enjoyed in the past. I will def. record Desperate Housewives and I also record Corner Gas. I usually try to catch a few minutes of Y & R each week but I haven't recorded it in a long time.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I never got into dh - what is corner gas about? mzc
  • I know funny name right? It took me a long time to watch it because I just skipped right over the name on the guide. Then I accidently watched it and there were so many LOL moments the I recorded a few and it is even more funny when you get to know the characters. It is set in Canada and was apparently very popular there. I guess it is kind of a cross between Seinfeld and Northern Exposure. Hey Canadians......would you say that is a fair description? Anyway, I really enjoy it. Light, funny nothing foul or serious. -cook

Well, let's see...you all know Dirty Sexy Money is my main, #1 show :-). Others:

    • Criminal Minds (can't wait to see what happened with that explosion!!!)
    • Ghost Whisperer
    • I used to watch L&O and  L&O SVU, but have not done so regularly in about a year. I'll still catch an episode of each here and there, though. Besides, L&O conflicts wtih DSM, so that put L&O out of the running on Wed nights.

Besides season premieres of the above shows, I'm looking forward to catching:

True blood - a new series by Alan Ball, who wrote American Beauty and created Six Feet Under. That guy is just phenominal and anythign he does usually turns out to be outstanding. So, as much as I'm not too interested in seeing a show about vampires - it's Alan Ball - so I have to check it out

Dexter - Not even sure when the third season starts, but Michael C. Hall is my second favorite actor (he was also on SFU). He's' just amazing - such an outstanding actor. And the show is really good too. I still have yet to see season 2, howevever, so I'll have to get that soon.

    Other show/channels:

    Y&R, of course

TruTV (on Friday and Sat nights when the cops-type shows aren't showing. YOu can only watch so many of those before they start to drive you nuts. But I love Forensic Files, etc)

Once in awhile, I'll catch reruns of old sitcoms like Friends, Frasier, Cheers, etc.

Hmmm...I think that's it. No reality shows, at all. My home is an anti-reality show environment, LOL>

  • Haven't seen Dexter. We used to watch AMH on Dead Zone. We like him too mzc
  • Criminal minds lost me a season or two ago when the one male fbi agent was held hostage and tortured by the serial killer -- they just started going a little too far with the violence for my taste. I reallly liked the characters though. mzchris
  • yeah, I remember that CM episode. It was pretty violent and hard to watch. I think it was a two parter too, wasn't it? Ahh, I don't remember. Anyway, that's why Mandy Patankin left - he thought it was too violent. But I still like Joe Mantegna (the guy who replaced him) and think he's doing a good job..........DebS
  • Oh, and don't confuse Anthony Michael Hall (Dead Zone actor) with Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under, Dexter) - COMPLETELY different actors! (inside).......DebS
  • DebS...I too watch Dexter and I LOVE IT! A very unusual concept to see things from Dexter's point of view. A very dark subject handled with humor. ..................OT

All of my favorites are in reruns right now so I have found myself going to the cable channels and watching true crime shows.  I'm so fascinated with forensics for some reason.  Anyway, I like to watch Investigators, Dominick Dunne, Snapped, First 48... The only network show I'm watching right now is Big Brother.  I'm looking forward to the new season of House, Desperate Housewives, and the new show The Mentalist.  And does anyone know if BIG LOVE on HBO has been cancelled.  I really like that show but since the writer's strike last year, it hasn't been on.

  • I should set House up to tape I have seen a few episodes and really like it mzc
  • Big Love is coming back in January, from what I understand Gail. I think the writer's strike messed up their schedule. Originally they were supposed to return in June, then September - last I heard it was January. I LOVE Big Love. ElaineJ/eom

  • Bones is forensics, police work, investigative crime solving. I like the pairing between the two leads. ,it is on Wednesday nights ( starting September 3rd) and next week signals the start of the new season. http://www.fox.com/bones/

Hadn't heard of Middleman but will check it out. MIB is one of our fav movies.
We watch Monk, Psych, and Burn Notice as well as the In Plain Sight but it is over for the year now. Mad Men on AMC just started the second year and love that show. Can't wait for Damages on FX to start again and Big Love on HBO.
There is a new show on TNT by Botcho this fall about lawyers we will check out.

My Name is Earl, Ugly Betty and a few others on network will catch us in a month or so.

PBS has a new Detective Lynley series going. We always enjoy any of the Brit shows. And we watch lots of nature and science shows on PBS or Discovery.

As I say many times we watch too much TV

PS I like Project Runway too.

  • Give it a couple episodes, it grows on you. Couple pointers - Ida is the middleman computer (snarky lady with glasses), Natalie Morales is Wendy Watson, they call her Dubie or Dub Dub (as in www for web sites lol) I just saw, they all the episodes online, link to web site inside mzc
  • Oh yeah, I forgot In Plain Sight is over til next summer. It was funny when Stan shoved the FBI agent int the closet and locked it lol. I like Ugly Betty too, but it was getting a little old for me towards the end so we will see. mzc
