Palin's Wolf-Killing Program Results in 14 Wolf Pup Deaths

In June, after gunning down 14 adult wolves from a helicopter, officials from Governor Palin’s Department of Fish and Game rounded up 14 orphaned wolf pups and methodically shot each one in the head in clear violation of a state law.

State law prohibits the targeting of pups -- a practice known as denning. Maybe that’s why Palin’s officials tried to cover it up, making no mention of the brutal pup executions in the state’s June 30th press release on the killings.  To date, none of the officials involved in the incident has been held accountable.

Video doesn't show actual shootings - but you'll get the idea

How does anyone know if Gov. Palin was actually involved? That could be a political ploy for all one knows. Maybe I missed something somewhere.
I do know deer, wolves, bear and even cariboo in some areas are culled because of vast populations. We have a certain bird in our area that is culled now and then. They are dirty, their 'poop' pollutes the lake and is killing the fish, and the island they tend to flock to is now dead of all vegetation. Their poop is that toxic. We have a deer cull every other year because the deer are over running farmer fields, getting caught up in fences, machinery etc. The bears are beginning to come into town from the mountains, again because population growth is making them seek food elsewhere. It does have to be done from time to time, like it or not if we humans wish to live on their land.

  • Good question, Denise. MarieH, the author of this topic has admitted below that she doesn't know (although her topic title suggested she had proof). She was speculating, offering her opinion of Palin's involvement. What a pity the topic title and subject was not framed accordingly. We have culls here too, kangaroos mostly. Across the road from my property is the start of the catchment for the local water supply. The kangaroo population gets very high - into the thousands sometimes - and there is not enough feed for them and they start destroying the native grasses and trees. I don't like it, but a cull is necessary because it is not feasible to relocate the animals. It is done as humanely as possible (if culling an animal can be humane) and only at certain times of the year so that joeys are not put in danger....Rose Bush....eom

It appears to me that the deriding of Sarah Palin has become something of a national sport...make that an international sport. Yesterday, on breakfast television here there was a segment about her. Kathy Lette, who is allegedly a satirist living in London most of the time (and was famous for co-writing a successful book 30 years ago but has just published unfunny crap ever since) was letting fly with what seems to be the standard anti-Palin line of attack:

http://today.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=644729 The man debating Lette is Andrew Bolt, who could not manage to get a word in.

Seems to me like anything goes if it is deriding Palin - and the more outraged one can become - even over private matters - the better. When did this become an acceptable form of political debate?

MarieH, I don't like what I just read about the killing of wolves and pups. It is sickening. But really...aren't you just looking for things to be outraged about when it comes to Palin? Did she actually pull the trigger? Was it her hand that signed the paper? I would be surprised if it was, unless you are telling us that Alaska is such a small state that the Governor is responsible personally approving every action undertaken by each and every government worker. If she is responsible to this level of administration, then Alaska must be the most inefficient administration in the history of the world and you can add "Micro Manager" to her list of personal failings.

  • (Sam) RB, she's made herself into a parody. The sports announcers here have been having a field day since she was picked as the VP candidate. One of the guys is smitten with her and he has dual citizenship but won't vote for her because he thinks she's a ditz. Her problem, besides being unqualified, is she's a walking contradiction. Pro life yet pro war and in favour of killing animals. She's put herself into the position and everyone is ridiculing her because of it. People here keep saying *I thought it couldn't get worse than Bush but if she gets in it will be*. That's the scariest part. Most of us who hate Bush couldn't wait to get him out of office but she and McCain are just as much warmongers as he is, if not more.
  • Actually RoseBush, her lack of respect for animal life was one of the first things that formed my dislike and disrespect for her. And did you not read this part: *State law prohibits the targeting of pups -- a practice known as denning. Maybe that’s why Palin’s officials tried to cover it up, making no mention of the brutal pup executions in the state’s June 30th press release on the killings. To date, none of the officials involved in the incident has been held accountable.* As governor it's hard to believe she played no part in this, so yes I do hold her responsible. On top of that I've read that she pays for every left paw of wolves that are slaughtered. You may wish to excuse this behavior and that's your privilege. However I do not wish to excuse this behavior and will not kowtow to anyone whose opinion it is that I should. I hope we now have an understanding. MarieH
  • I understood you long before you posted this topic, MarieH. I also predict that you will vanish from this board after the election. Seen it all before.....Rose Bush....eom
  • Also, MarieH, could you post the evidence you have that Sarah Palin was involved in a cover up on this? I know you have a hunch, but I would prefer to see some evidence if it is all the same to you.....Rose Bush....eom
  • I said I *believe* she played a part in it. I don't think my *opinion* calls for me to provide any more evidence than the story I posted here, even if you DO, so it's not all the same to me. I also don't happen to care about your predictions so I guess they're important only to you. It's too bad you don't have more important things to think about in life than who comes or goes on this board. You come across as having a very authorative demeanor but I don't take orders, so if you're used to having others cower or abide by your rules, you're barking up the wrong tree. MarieH
  • Oh and btw you understood me long before I posted this topic? You can't really believe YOU'RE not transparent. . MarieH
  • OK, so now we have cleared that up. Palin did not authorise a cover up, that was just speculation on your part wasn't it, MarieH. Oh yeah...I've got nothin' else to worry about but who is on this board. Geeezzzuuuussss...this is from the person who posts a dozen, tiresome and entirely predictable anti-Palin or anti-McCain or pro-Obama topics a day! What a joke. I can't wait for 5 November...it'll all be over and you will be gone from here as mysteriously as you arrived.....Rose Bush.....eom
  • I have an idea! Since you have other things to do why not just pass on my posts? I'm not exactly holding your face to your computer screen forcing you to read. If you're suffering through this stuff, it's of your own doing. MarieH
  • Rose Bush, American comedians have always made fun of our politicians. Sarah Palin is just having her 15 minutes. After this election, they will start targeting someone else. eom Sierra
  • Oh who cares what she thinks? She can defend that twit til the cows come home but thankfully she can't vote for her. She can vote for her very own twit in Australia.

I won't watch it either, I am so repulsed by everything about her. The more I hear, the more I can't stand her, and I find it SO bloody ironic that she's pro-life but when it comes to animals, it's kill, kill, kill. McCain had better watch it if he does get in, I wouldn't put anything past her in her quest to have all the power.

I hate violence against animals, so I can't bring myself to watch the video. I saw the headline and that's enough for me.

I already knew about Palin's lack of respect for animals. And as an animal rights activist, I cannot even begin to support her because of that (like I needed another reason). NO way, no how.

  • I recall John Kerry going on a duck shoot during the last election campaign. I don't recall anybody on this board going into a lather about his animal killing exploits. .....Rose Bush.....eom
  • Although I hate hunting of any kind, that's hardly the same as putting out bounties for the slaughtering of animals, and I'd think you'd be well aware of that. MarieH
  • I suspect that the bounty system in Alaska is much like bounty systems that other wilderness states and countries have for controlling wildlife when they come into contact with human activity (ie, farming). Unlike John Kerry who was shooting wild ducks for fun, bounty scheme operate to address farming business issues. What I find interesting is how you are clutching at straws to pin this policy and its application solely on Sarah Palin, and claim that she must be personally involved in a cover up because you don't like her. You even go so far as to imply that she is personally paying for the paws of wolves, as if she was fishing around in her purse to find the bounty money. If you had any experience whatsoever of public policy you would know how ridiculous that is. Incidentally, I do not personally agree with wildlife bounty schemes, MarieH and reject your attempt to portray me as some sort of gun-toting animal hater....Rose Bush....eom
  • Well if that's true you should make more of an effort not to sound like one. MarieH
  • Perhaps you should make more of an effort not to flame people because they don't happen to share your fanatical opinions of the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates....Rose Bush....eom
  • Hey, don't look now but I wasn't the flamer. You came in to flame me and my opinion. Don't try to turn the tables. You may have a good command on vocabulary but your social skills stink. MarieH
  • And btw, I'd be careful of the word fanatical if I were you. We in these United States of America grow very passionate around election time. THIS time around threw us into even a more passionate mode. And guess what. Whether you like it or not, approve of it or not, you have no say over how I should or shouldn't feel. MarieH
  • Asking you to produce evidence of your claims is not a flame....Rose Bush....eom
