Nothing exciting. Just chilling. I'm still recovering from major surgery I had last Thursday so I'm gonna be hanging around the house and lounging on our back wood deck. Hubby's throwing a few things on the grill.

I could actually lov this Holiday.  Whats not to love? You have Red, White and Blue, Patriotism, picnics, swimming, family fun and togetherness and John Phillips Sousa marches.   FIREWORKS SOLD TO AMATUERS, thats what!

Last night in our court of 6 homes I was rocked by something that sounded like a bomb. Not the typical loud firework sound. Then another, then multiple.  Most of us have replaced our roof and you'd think the parents would know some simmering piece firework cardboard will ignite a house. No, because the parents don't think like that, because they are in on it.

Heaven forbid if it rains on the 4th because the hundreds they spent on the fireworks will not be wasted.  We'll hear them every night till they're all gone.

I must give credit where credit is due, they did sweep up the debris last year.

  • I must admit, when I was a teenager I too loved to buy and set off our own fireworks show. Fireworks are illegal in Georgia but we live on the South Carolina line so it's so easy to cross the river into SC and buy them. Now, as an adult I hate them. Folks in our neighborhood start shooting them off a week BEFORE the holiday...be it July 4th, New Years whatever. Then ALL NIGHT LONG on the actual holiday. They are loud, obnoxious and leave litter all around the neighborhood. The police won't do anything to stop it unless you actually call in a complaint. Who wants to be known as the neighborhood kill joy? So I just endure...sigh...GJ
  • Thats what is so good about this board. You can vent without repercussions.

It's my birthday on the 4th. I plan on sitting on my deck reading, sipping and listening to the family make dinner.

  • LOL.. I am a canuck. As a kid, I lived near the border. So when your fireworks were blazing, my parents told me they were for my birthday. I believed until I was about 7.
  • ... and thank you both.

Since today is the first day I have been allowed to walk without a boot or cast on my foot, I will probably take a very leisurely stroll in a local park.  Then I will probably come home and collapse.  Relatives are coming by for a BBQ and that's about it.

My brother and his wife are coming down from N.C.  Their grown kids and their boy/girlfriends are coming over and we're going to have a pool party/cookout at my house.  We'll cook some hotdogs and hamburgers and just hang out.  Then later we are going to go downtown and watch the fireworks.  I'm so excited about that cuz hubby never wants to do that & we haven't done it in years but he's agreed to take me.  YAY....I'm like a little kid when it comes to fireworks!
