Topic: Sunburned knees and big smiles!

Additional Comments: Hi everyone! We just got back from vacation. It was a fantastic time. Water slides, a lazy river, bonfires, smores and 16 miles of nature trails in a beautiful environment. Almost no bickering between children whatsoever. Even on the lengthy drive to and from. I was pretty successful in sunscreen coverage and wearing a hat, but somehow missed the tops of my thighs and knees. I may peel. Oh well. It was sooo worth it!

At the end of one day, I was sitting in a lounge chair pulled out into the water, drinking a tasty cold beverage and watching my kids smile ear to ear while they buried each other in the sand (there was a "beach" too!). I was reflecting on how lucky we all were to be there together, happy and healthy. The day could not be more perfect. Then I saw a bunch of people standing and pointing up above my head. I turned and looked up. The biggest brightest rainbow I ever recall was in the sky over our scene. I kid you not! Everyone stopped what they were doing, faces turned up and jaws slightly dropped. If only I could give it the proper credit. There had been a little thunder and dark clouds in the distance earlier and they all met up right there. Bright sun coming over the top of the dark mysterious clouds and a rainbow from one side of the world to the other. No one even took pictures for awhile, it was THAT mesmerizing! I didn't have a camera anywhere near me or I would have hoped to have gotten at least one to share.
Anyway, what a cool world.

I'm glad you had a great vacation and hope you don't peel too badly.

One of my daughters worked at an architectural firm and the first year, when they had there annual contest among firms, to build sand castles, she was on the team. She said she learned a real lesson. If you're going to spend hours on the beach, building serious sand castles, remember to put lotion on the soles of your feet!! She couldn't walk for a few days. Fortunately, she didn't drive herself to the beach, cause she couldn't drive, either.

  • Oh no! I wouldn't have thought to put sunscreen on my feet either! -cook

Welcome back!  Glad you had such a good time.  Too bad you didn't have your camera for that rainbow but you will always remember it, along with all the other good times you had.

  • We never remember to take photos! I need to work on that. And video too. There is more video of me as a child than there is of my kids! -cook

  • It was so much fun. Do you and Mr. Ingy get caught up in looking through the local real estate sections when you go to a new city? If we had more time we might have actually gone to some open houses too! Just kidding, the kids would have voted that idea down for sure! -cook

  • Funny huh? Believe it or not there was a time in my youth when I actually put OIL on myself before going into the sun!!! Seriously! -cook
