Additional Comments:

I was goofing around on the HGTV website and decided to upload some pictures on the Rate My Space page just for the heck of it.   So here are some pictures of the house we bought last year and have been working on ever since.

Did I miss some of the pictures?  It siad that your dressing room is also pictured but all I saw the bedroom with a dressing table.

  • Thanks, Quentin. That is my dressing room. It has an extra bed in it. It's one of my favorite rooms in the house which is why I included the pictures of it. I hang out in there a lot to read, etc. because it's a nice, sunny room. ~i&b

Your home is absolutely beautiful, Ingy. I'm loving that living room with the way the furniture is arranged with the fireplace being the focal point. I also like the indoor balcony overseeing the living room. It looks so cozy, warm and inviting. The woodwork in the home is amazing.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks, Peaches. Before the furniture was delivered by the movers, I measured the room and went online and played around with furniture arrangements. Then when the movers came, I knew exactly where everything would go and I already knew it would fit. That made it much easier. ~i&b

Your house and furniture and decorating is georgous!  I thought you were a paralegal?  Don't you think you're in the wrong profession?  You should be an interior decorator...do you have a knack to do that full-time?  You're excellent at it.  It's georgous - thank you for sharing with us.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Yes, I'm a paralegal working with patents and trademarks. And I enjoy that but my real passion is for design and decorating. I didn't realize I had talent in that area until much later in life. I wish I had known when I was choosing a major in college. I did have a side business in Georgia doing interior decorating but now that I'm married I don't want to work two jobs. The ID field is very competitive and it can be hard to get projects if you're not formally trained (which I'm not). Would love to be a home stager full-time and I feel I'd be great at it, but it's hard to make a consistent income doing that. ~i&b

  • You're hired. Just remember, my mother will not allow anyone to go anywhere near the basement. And it's probably a good idea to stay away from the west wing, too. I'm sure you'll love our corner of Maine. Carolyn Stoddard.
  • All duly noted! ~i&b
  • After work, you and I can head to The Blue Whale for drinks. That will drive mother and Uncle Roger mad. Carolyn

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I subscribe to a couple but my favorites are Traditional Homes and Architectural Digest. BTW, I love looking at houses. We looked at over 70 houses before we grabbed this one. Fortunately, we became friends with our realtor and she understood what we were looking for and remained very patient. Her co-workers teased her about us all the time, though. LOL! ~i&b

LOVELY, LOVELY!!  I am so glad you waited and found the absolute right house for you all!  Okay, I DO have one question, to bring us back down to earth.  However to you clean those tall windows???  Do you have an really TALL ladder to stand up on?? Yikes!

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Funny you should ask that question. Mr. Ingy just bought a tall ladder last week for cleaning gutters and the very next night our house got ''egged'' by neighborhood pranksters, right on the upper part of the bay window! ~i&b
  • I was actually referring to the INSIDE of the windows!! I suppose I always think in terms of what the WOMAN is going to have to do as opposed to *man's work*. ;-) So, how do YOU clean the inside of the windows up high?
  • Fortunately, that high up nothing really gets on them. But I'm like my mother, I don't do windows! I think that's something worth hiring out. They always do a way better job than I could anyway. ~i&b
  • Well, it is a relief to know that you are not TOTALLY perfect! LOL! You seem to be able to work so much into your life that it wouldn't surprise me if you did all the housework, too! ;-) ~Duffy
  • Believe me, I'm far from perfect! I cut a deal with Mr. Ingy when we moved into a larger home. Now we get a cleaning service and he and I just do whatever needs to be done in between, which isn't much. I could clean the entire house but life's too short, ya know? We already have a long workday. ~i&b

Your home is so beautiful and classic! Do you want to come over and decorate my new apt? LOL. Seriously, I love it.

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • I'd love to do that! I will decorate anything, anytime. It's pretty much my favorite thing to do. I just lose myself putzing around with all the stuff and trying to get just the right balance. ~i&b
  • LOL - I tried putting curtains up today and it turned into a mess. I could not drill into the wall deep enough to fit the screws, so now my curtain rod is hanging by a thread - with the curtains on them because my motto is ''if it doesn't fit - force it'' SIGH - I'm so pathetic with this stuff!.........DebS
  • That's a bummer! Does your complex have a maintenance guy who could help you out? ~i&b
  • Yes it does. Maybe I should call..........DebS
  • Yeah, those curtains will pull out of the wall eventually. ~i&b

It looks great!   If I remember right, the previous owners had this outrageous sofa that was either pink or green, or a loud plaid, or something, and it seemed to dominate the entire room.   Your colors compliment the woodwork and the window, which are extremely pretty.    Very smart choices!

    Replies: (list all replies)

  • Would you believe 95% of this furniture I already had? It's weird how well it suited the house. I can't believe you remember the former owners' stuff! They had a looong green sofa in the bay window and two pink and white striped club chairs on either side of the arch to the dining room, plus a large pink rug in the middle of the room. It was very candy-colored! Like ribbon candy. ~i&b
  • LOL! .... Yes ma'am, I definitely remember that first set of pictures. I'm also a little bit curious about the exterior of the house, facing the street. Have you done any ''re-landscaping'' in the front yet? .... Ricky
  • Not yet. We have big plans, though. We will be tearing out some large shrubs and installing a curving walkway down to the street with a couple of steps at the bottom, also stacked stone retaining walls and some flower beds. $$$$$$! It never ends. ~i&b
  • It's a beautiful house --- inside & out --- and I'm glad that y'all are going a traditional Tudor route with it. Now CHOP DOWN THEM BUSHES, lol .... Ricky

  • I worry he's a bit too busy but what can you do. Besides working and raising his boys, he's taken up photography which is turning up to be a part time job. He takes pics at sporting events, and sells them. I've seen some of his pics and they are really good. He's getting invited to do 'shoots' so that's proof in the puddin'. Ben will be starting high school and Alex in grade 8, both are already in training for hockey season. So everyone is busy. He has a 'friend' who is an absolute gem, I hope he realizes it lol. I'd welcome her into our family in a heartbeat. So, thank God, he's well and happy and doing just fine. Thanks for asking.
  • It sounds like things couldn't be better for Chris. I'm so happy to hear that! ~i&b

Your home is beautiful!! I love the vaulted ceiling with the wood beams in the living room. The arched doorway between the living room and dining room is lovely and those floor to ceiling paned windows (almost looks like a giant bay window) in the living room are stunning. Your decor is gorgeous - very timeless and elegant. You have exquisite taste. Thanks for sharing!
