Additional Comments: Do you have a favorite salsa?  I went to the Ballard Market today, which is a farmer's market, if you will, with local farmer's, jewelry makers, craftsman, and all sorts of other things.  One booth was selling freshly made tomatillo salsa.  I bought a carton and I think it is now my favorite salsa of all time.  It's perfectly spicy and has lots of cilantro, one of my favorite ingredients in salsa.  They don't sell it in stores so I will have to go back to the farmer's market when I want more.

I love Fresh Cut Salsa by Rojos.  Don't know if it is available everywhere.  I am in California.  But, mostly, I make my own!  I put fresh tomatos, red onion, green bell pepper, salt, garlic, cilantro, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.  It is time consuming to cut all of the veggies as small as I like them, but it is oh, so worth it!!  It tastes great with Salmon.  I call it Pico de Gallo, though, not salsa because it isn't saucy.

  • You can add your own *heat* to it, too! My tummy doesn't like the heat!! mm3
  • Rojo is available up here and it is good. I also prefer to make my own when time allows. rushlan

Wow, what I really miss about Texas is the salsa!  I can actually tolerate the Mexican food here in Bellevue, except for the salsa.  Pace Picante is my favorite jar salsa.  I will have to check out the Ballard farmers' market.  Is it open every Saturday?  I love Pike Place and will go there in May, for sure.

Maybe we could operate a real Mexican food restaurant here and make some $$$??  I'm not the best at cooking it, but I am a champ at eating it!  If you can make it, I can critique it!

  • that sounds like an idea! The Seattle area could use some good Mexican food. rushlan
  • Ah Texas. When we lived there I worked with a lady named Peggy and she used to make salsa by the gallons .... everybody begging her for some. It was sooooo good. mz chris

I like cilantro in salsa too, rushlan.  I usually buy the fresh (mild) salsa our supermarket makes.  After eating fresh the stuff in the jar isn't so appealing to me anymore.  I've made my own salsa a couple of times but it never turns out as good as the store made.

  • I agree, the salsa from a jar is not very appealing. The stuff I buy at the grocery is in the refrigerated section. rushlan

Homemade salsa is always great, but I don't have time to make it myself. When I visit the U.S. I always buy jars of Chi Chi's salsa. IMO it's the best store bought salsa. When I run out and I am home, I buy the Tostitos brand. It's good too. I always buy medium or hot depending on the brand.

  • My favorite store bought salsa is called Baja. But I think home-made is always best. rushlan
  • I agree about the Chi Chi's salsa...that is my favorite. [smartin]

I love salsa! There's a chain around here called "Margaritas." I'm sure they have them in other states too. But their salsa is very yummy. They also have some kind of dish that I always get, that has like a salsa in there, but with a hint of garlic. Mmmmmm! I loooooooove garlic. The name of the dish is Skillet Baked Enchilladas (now I have to go there sometime soon!)

  • this salsa has lots of garlic too. We has a chain called Las Margaritas here, but it is really not very good in my opinion. I don't actually have a favorite Mexican restaurant in Seattle. When I want good Mexican food I make it from scratch. rushlan
  • No, I don't think Las Margaritas is the same chain. Especially if they're not that good. Margaritas is YUMMY!! And I LOVE salsa w/ garlic! I'm a garlic freak.........DebS
