Topic: OMG! What a horrific time for the people in Burma.

Additional Comments:

22,000 people dead (and counting) from the cyclone!!!  That's horrible.  Being so far away from there, it's hard to imagine the total disaster that's happening over there right now.  20,000 people is the entire population of my town.  I can't imagine the increasing death toll being more than my entire town!  :o((  Not to mention the diseases, hunger, poverty, and crime that will follow immediately after!

Very sad at what happened, reminds me of the tsunami from a few years ago. I heard today that Myanmar will accept foreign aid.

  • But only aid that is turned over directly to their government. They are refusing to allow the US or France to bring in people and resources to help. Mz Chris

The people of Burma have been suffering for longer then just this last week. They have the largest Army that's sole purpose is to control the people in thier own country. It is a horrid regime there.
My prayer is that this natural disaster opens the country up for aid to all the people and perhaps a change in government.

  • Yes I know about the atrocities that happen over there. In fact, there was a segment on NBC not too long ago about what's really going on over there and it was heart wrenching. Nothing different than what happens in other countries with a similar story to tell. But they didn't need the cyclone on top of that. AmyD
  • I just watched a clip on our Cdn news that's saying that the processing/emergency issue of visas req'd by NGO's and other that are now ready to go in and assist with clean water, supplies, etc. are being delayed... It seems the army is blocking aid from getting to their people quickly, and the death tolls are compounding terribly. Sure idoesn't appear to be a regime that cares much about the 'people'.
  • They said the gov't knew the storm was coming and didn't broadcast it to the people! eom CG
  • OMG are you serious? That's seriously disturbing. AmyD
