Topic: Any ''strange'' fusion restaurants around you?

Additional Comments:

MrChris met us for lunch at a restaurant he likes, I like some of their food, but it is just strange to me.  They call themselves a mexican/chinese fusion.  Very bizarre,  They have quesadillas, burritos, and tacos, but the fillings are mostly chinese flavors.  Lucy really likes the cheese quesadilla, and their chili rellenos have the most wonderful flavor.    You can also get a meal in a rice bowl, but I usually am in more of a mexican mood.....

Any strange combinations like that around you?

I just heard about one in Buckhead .. forget the name of the restaurant..the name had an Indian type name...they imported all their meats from Spain. They were on tv showing a Leg of lamb..that cost $600.00!

I think the place had a far eastern name to it..."Indonesian Pig"..??? That sounds right some how..

When I lived in Charlotte, an Indian restaurant and a Brazilian restaurant shared the same quarters. They didn't mix ingredients or menus, etc., but sometimes on special days, you could pay one price and enjoy the buffets in both restaurants. (And both buffets were very good).

And when I lived in Austin, there was a buffet place that served Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese food. But again, they didn't mix the foods. You could just get all three if you wished.

I regularly eat "fusion" cuisine, however. Southern cooking is basically Anglo-Saxon food made much better with the infusion of African foods and techniques.

  • All interesting. MrChris loves Indian, and really wants to go to a brazillian place he saw advertised, so he would probably like the two together. mzchris

Yes, we have a restaurant in the area that is a strange combination to me - Cajun and Irish pub food.  It is called Celtic Bayou.  Years ago the food was quite good but I have not been there in quite a while.  I always ordered the cajun food - pub fare is not one of my favorites.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, rushlan! I have been looking for anything resembling a muffaletta for ages! I'm dying for one. My cousin got me some kind of marination stuff from Whole Foods and I was able to make a pretty decent substitution at home, but I'm anxious to try the Celtic Bayou. Also, I haven't found anything here that comes close to blackened food like New Orleans. This should be really fun. I also like some of the Irish dishes, like corn beef and cabbage and the bangers and mash. Thanks for sharing. eom/Jenny
  • I am so glad I could make you happy. If you ever go to downtown Seattle try Marcela's Cookery in Pioneer Square. Link inside. rushla
  • My niece is going to school in seattle, I would like to see Seattle and visit her one day. MrChris used to travel there regularly for work when he was consulting with a different group. MZChris
